Some people find the name "Church of Christ" to be an insurmountable barrier.

It has ALWAYS been a barrier for the overwhelming majority: Only a tiny remnant left!They were "first called Christians" at Antioch as a term of OBUSE. Christ and EVERYTHING He taught and revealed was an OFFENSE to the secular mind.# For 2,000 years the church has been known as the church of Christ. See the History. When you see CHRIST as a barrier then you have lost Christ and cannot be a Christian church.

Max Lucado: Scripture urges us to remove cultural hindrances while remaining scripturally true. Paul writes:

"When I am with the Jews, I become one of them so that I can bring them to Christ...When I am with the Gentiles who do not have the Jewish law, I fit in with them as much as I can. In this way, I gain their confidence and bring them to Christ. But I do not discard the law of God; I obey the law of Christ...Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so that I might bring them to Christ. There are numerous examples of Paul refusing to change either his faith or religious practices taught by Christ. For instance, the people wanted to sacrific to Paul with a ZEUS animal sacrifice. Max Lucado: Aren't we abandoning our roots? Not at all. The fathers of our Restoration Movement resisted common names. They sought to be simply Christians. Max Lucado: Won't this decision negatively impact our relationship with other Churches of Christ? Other churches have successfully made the shift. We do not expect our interaction with churches and institutions among Churches of Christ to dip significantly. Even if it does, however, other churches are not our target audience. Lost souls are.

Max Lucado: Why is this worth it? Souls. By removing a barrier, more souls will be saved. None will be lost, but some will be saved. More believers will come to us for training; more unbelievers will come for teaching. If this change results in one saved soul, won't it be worth it?

Max Lucado: It is time to strengthen our team even further, however, so we announce our decision to seek an associate pulpit/singles minister. We are asking God to bring us a 25-35-year-old minister, whose primary gift is teaching. He will lead the singles ministry and, at the outset, preach 12 Sundays a year.We will not hire him as "the future Senior Minister." This places an unneeded expectation on us all. That decision will be made in the future. Several obvious advantages accompany his coming:

1. A consistent voice in my absence. (a ditto head)
2. The opportunity for me to write more.
3. A step toward a "team approach" to preaching.
4. The presence of a younger minister to connect with younger families.
5. An immediate, perhaps permanent, replacement for me should I become incapacitated.
6. The availability of another strong teacher for Oak Hills Church events, retreats, and classes.
7. An opportunity for me to mentor a young minister.

As a MARK of false prophets or apostles, Paul commanded Timothy to LABOR and provide CHARITY to others and not be chargeable to widows and hard working people. Further, in order to MARK the false pretenders, he called himself a ROBBER for taking even volunteer gifts from his friends. The way to BUILD UP the church therefore is to:

Max Lucado: As we look back over the last fifteen years, in three major seasons we have, in my perspective, witnessed a clear breakthrough of God's leading. In the early nineties, our Lord called us to be a force for unity among San Antonio churches. We, for the first time, "swapped pulpits" with Trinity Baptist Church.

That is because Max Lucado is a most radical form of Baptist: agreeing with their baptism which is BELIEVER'S BAPTISM which is PAGAN BAPTISM.Baptist baptism did not exist prior to 1825 when Zwingli declared that for 15 centuries no SCHOLAR who understood FAITH ONLY existed. The Baptist cult had Lee and other generals as their messiahs: they were the DISTINCTLY RACIST religion of the South and Southwest reaching all of the way to San Antonio.

as the Established Church of the Old South, and then of the Confederacy and Reconstruction and on into our own day.

The Southern Baptist Convention is already the prevailing faith of the South and Southwest. These experiential beliefs are antithetical to one another; they are rival American Gnosticisms, and may well dispute the spiritual future of our nation.There is a shadow upon both religions, which each has attempted to eliminate. African-Americans are not numerous among the Mormons, but technically they are now welcome.So long and vexed is the Southern Baptist relation, first to slavery and then to the immense struggle for African-American rights, that I must evade any true sketch of it here.

It is a dismal record, though not of course unique among the Christian churches of the United States.

The crusade of the Texas led Fundamentalists has turned into a drive against thought itself, in a final revenge upon history for the refusal of God to give victory to the South. The Moderates, an instance of Lincoln's "almost chosen people," have been unable to counter the fanaticism of a chosen people, zealous and ever-angry.

Such worship of the Lost Cause does seem rather more High Romantic Faulknerian than Christian, but this is not at all my literary imagining. Here is Bill J. Leonard, our major contemporary authority on Southern Baptist church history: What then was The Great Southern Baptist Myth? The denomination of the defeated, itself born of schism and racism.. HAROLD BLOOM, the American Religion, Pg 190ff

Bloom INCLUDES the baptists, mormons and Christian churches but # specificially EXCLUDES churches of Christ as racists and NOT CONNECTED to history. It is common knowledge that Southern churches mostly opted out of the Civil War because it COULD NOT defend racism which had been condemned very early by the Campbells.Therefore, another BIG LIE of craftsmanship is to identify churches of Christ is racists.

But one cannot be a MAN OF INTEGRITY and "steal the church houses of widows."

If he cannot or will not then the ELDERS and STAFF INFECTION at Oak Hills should MARK him.

And, the author of The Sacred Prostitute describes a New Year festival during the summer solstice:

The Global Network: # This recent circulation, "A New Mission Role for a New Era" by Brian F. O'Connell begins by quoting the "new thing" bible verse and goes on to say that:

"As the landmark date of AD 2000 rapidly approaches, it continues to be valuable to consider how God would have us do new things in missions. ... But what are the new models for how we can work more effectively in missions? We in the West have often propagated the myth sometimes unknowingly of the missionary role as a kind of Horatio Alger: a "lone ranger," attempting to reach impossible dreams all by themselves. Even when non-Westerners come here for seminary or other training, they can take back this American individualistic attitude. However, over the last decade a new paradigm emerged, which is proving its value: the evangelism/church planting partnership movement. ... We know that relationships are at the heart of the Gospel, and that unity among believers was Christ's prayer for His church in John 17. Partnerships offer the best model for relational cultures and can more effectively equip indigenous leadership....What do these partnership facilitators do? As networkers, they become the communications hub among the different agencies. As prophets, they hold onto and make known the vision of reaching the people group or area to which they have been called. As servant leaders, they are the glue that hold things together in between annual partnership planning meetings, facilitating the process of collaboration. ... Explaining to mission-sending agencies the critical and essential nature of the facilitator role has not always been easy. This is a classical "paradigm shift," a new definition of a missionary role and function. It is time for us not just to deploy workers for the harvest, but to develop new structures so that these workers will truly partner together with more impact for the Kingdom. I signed that document. I don't consider myself an authority on all of that. I look up to men like Chuck Colson and others who are architects of this." # Naïve Evangelical MysticsThe hard truth is that America is No Longer a "Christian Nation."This subtle anti-Christian shift in modern society recently came out as a sociological "fact." Said sociologist Alan Wolfe to a group of journalists during a visit to Washington in the Spring of 1998: "We've gone from a predominantly Christian country to one of religious toleration, and that's never been reported as a news story." "We used to be a Christian nation. Recently we have become a nation tolerant of all religions." Wolfe recently produced a sociological study of the American middle class. He believes that there is no culture war because most Americans will not choose sides. Moderation and tolerance are the norms. "Americans are reluctant to pass judgment on how other people act and thinkÉMiddle-class Americans have added an Eleventh Commandment: 'Thou shalt not judge.' Such tolerance and refusal to judge is the seedbed of syncretism, and syncretism is the motor of modern paganism.Under the name of "centering prayer," a new approach to spirituality is making its way into Christian churches. Centering is a Buddhist mystical technique popularized by the Hindu/Christian Thomas Merton and the neo-pagan "Christian" Matthew Fox.The powerful presence of paganism in America requires that we think about Pagan Missionary theory.PAGAN MISSION THEORY FOR GLOBAL SPIRITUALITYThe old paradigm of the Western Christian nations taking the Gospel to the benighted lands of heathen darkness is fast giving way to a postmodern global syncretism and planetary inclusivism. Pagan totalitarianism is coming, if one is to believe Harvard Divinity School theologian, Harvey Cox: "we must shape and reconceive our rites and myths in order that they unite and enlarge us (humanity)....We must now take the initiative, not just to predict the future...but to shape it."You truly have reason to FEAR the one world church.# Purpose Driven ApostasyFurthermore, just as the new radical center "third way" political views have made those who are deemed "politically incorrect" the object of prolific scorn, the "greater evangelical community" has in essence branded today's Fundamentalists as "religiously incorrect" (though they may not use that exact term, they have coined other derogatory terms such as "Fundies"). While some who disgracefully wear the Fundamentalist badge deserve to be branded due to their nasty attitudes and demagoguery, the "religiously incorrect" label is reserved for those who, in defense of the Faith (and in a Scriptural manner), propagate such things as a "critical spirit" against other high-profile Christians like Max Lucado, Paul Crouch, Chuck Colson, Pat Robertson, Bill McCartney, Jack Van Impe, Billy Graham, or Pope John Paul II. In defense of the biblical Fundamentalist, his position should be as ordained by the Word of God:

"...mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned and avoid them. For they are such which serve our Lord Jesus ChristÉand by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple." Rom.16: 17-18
