Ezekiel 33 - The Holy Whore

Musical Praise or Spiritual Prostitution? Churches are stolen and remodelled as performing theaters for musical worship teams, musical praise teams or performanc preaching. Selling books, bookings or tapes, or buying members with talented performance is the definition of the Holy Whore, as she is preparing to meet the Lord in judgment. This began in the Garden of Eden where Satan "seduced" Eve and it will end according to Revelation 18 when the musicians and their instruments will go with them into Sheol and finally allow some peace as people rise to meet with the Lord and forever be with Him.

Not among the Hebrew musicians or noise makers and not even in the vilest pagan temples did the musicians ever enter into the holy enclosures. The Jewish Holy Place was a carnal TYPE of the church of body of Christ. Therefore, neither Judaism nor any known temple religion give any hint of authority to defile or pollute the holy places with either singers or instrumentalists.

In many temples such as in Babylon, the clergy consisted of priests, prophets, soothsayers, musicians and prostitutes. Jugglers, clowns, magicians and actors were frequent performers but ALWAYS in the courts.

When Jesus refused to go up on the opening ceremonies of the Feast of Tabernacles, he know that they were engaged in a giant fertility festival like "children piping." In all of these fertility rituals sodomy in all priesthoods was believed to "bind the flesh and spirit together."

It was prophesied that the military musicians would try to triumph over Jesus in Psalm 41. Triumph is a musical, warfare ritual to drive the enemy into panic. In the Dead Sea Scroll translation of Psalm 41, the military would attack Messiah as Beliar using the instruments of warfare. However, when the battle was over, Messiah would play on the "instruments of God" which were his mouth and tongue. Click for more.

Paul warned that to get involved in fornication involved getting God involved in fornication. In the same way, engaging in the rituals of pagan worship involved the people in literal and spirit adultery.

Whatever we do we have Lord Jesus Christ or Full Deity in our heard. Do we really want to force Him to speak our effeminate, sentimental poetry when to praise Him we would speak His Words?

The pagan mind has always wanted to have sex with the gods or godesses. Ishtar, as goddess, was so pleased that she had gotten Ea drunk and stole some MES which were powers. One of those powers was knowing how to have unnatural sex with her worshippers.

God warned Ezekiel that the people really saw him -- or any performing speaker or musician -- as a deviant prostitute. Don't be surprised that they also want to have sex with God or "know God personally."

A spiritual holy whore or prostitute church is one who replaces God's revealed word with songs or sermons of their own, as superior to God's naturally, and then sells them for a prophets. All of the prophesying or musical prophets or prophetesses were religious prostitutes. And you were a fool because you threw away the APPLE and ate the CORE he sold you.

A holy whore church is a Bride who sells herself for money.

Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou has gone a whoring from thy God, thou has loved a reward upon every cornfloor. Hosea 9:1

And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. Rev 6: 11

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 12: 17

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Revelation 22: 14

At Mount Sinai

After swearing to keep the Book of the Covenant--a renewal of the Abrahamic Covenant--the Israelites, perhaps under the foreign influence of the "mixed multitude," grew impatient for the Word as a written letter and forced their leaders to permit them to fall back into Apis worship which is defined as play.  This involved singing, dancing, instrumental music in worship and more.  Running naked and "sacred sex" made these mad people believe that their "musical worship team actually brought them into the presence of the gods of Egypt."

As a result God gave The Book of the Law which, according to the prophets, was not good. Bible scholars have no doubt that--

"The triumphal hymn of Moses had unquestionably a religious character about it; but the employment of music in religious services, though idolatrous, is more distinctly marked in the festivities which attended the erection of the golden calf." (Smith's, Music, p. 589).

After God's discipline because of the instrumental music in worship or musical play at Sinai was over, He directed the making of two silver trumpets to signal marches or war:

When ye blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys. Nu 10:6

However, when Moses called Israel together for instructions from God, they could use the trumpets much like a church bell. However, they could not then turn the edification assembly into a "praise the Lord" affair which would say that they didn't care much about hearing from God. That is, the trumpets could not be used for rejoicing or as instrumental music in worship:

But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. Nu 10:7

The alarm is a triumph-over or boast intended to panic the enemy. Judas would not be able to do this to Jesus. Triumph or alarm is from the Hebrew:

Ruwa (h7321) roo-ah'; a prim. root; to mar (espec. by breaking); fig. to split the ears (with sound), i. e. shout (for alarm or joy): - blow an alarm, cry (alarm, aloud, out), destroy, make a joyful noise, smart, shout for joy, sound an alarm, triumph.

Most Israelites, except those who went to the high places to worship Baal with the sacred prostitutes who performed for them, honored this. David expanded the signals used in warfare to be used in his new temple-state. Remember that when the leaders of Israel demanded a king like the nations it was so that they could worship like the nations.

You say, "We want to be like the nations, like the peoples of the world, who serve wood and stone." But what you have in mind will never happen. Eze.20:32

The idols of wood, stone and dead animals were often made into idols which might be musical instruments or other magical means of bypassing God's Word and going direct to the pagan gods.

The kings which were selected were "after God's own choice" only because they were demanded to lead Israel into a different form of religion which, God warned, would destroy them. The kings, like the law, were a curse for people who rejected the direct rule of God and demanded a pagan-like secular priest king. It is well recognized that the worship instituted by David was different from the Law of Moses:

"The book of Psalms contain new doctrine after the Law of Moses. And after the writing of Moses, it is the second book of doctrine... (David) first gave to the Hebrews a new style of psalmody, by which he abrogates the ordinances established by Moses with respect to sacrifices, and introduces the new hymn and a new style of jubilant praise in the worship of God; and throughout his whole ministry he teaches very many other things that went beyond the law of Moses." (Fragment of Commentary by Hippolytus, bishop of Rome, Ante-Nicene, V, p. 170)

There were a few times for rejoicing such as Jubilee which was associated with the hope for future atonement. However, the "church" or the congregation did not gather for singing with instrumental accompaniment. Worship was a state ritual and not a weekly "congregational show and tell." The musical worship team chosen by David and the commanders of the army were like the nations.

Ezekiel and the other prophets restated the Law against Music

And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day. Eze 2:3

For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God. Eze 2:4

And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. Eze 2:5

And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. Eze 2:6

The word of the LORD came to me: Ezek 13:1

"Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: 'Hear the word of the LORD! Ezek 13:2

This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit (self-composed songs or incantations with instruments) and have seen nothing! Ezek 13:3

My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD. Ezek 13:9

The peeping and muttering into musical devices produced an echo. The musical praise prophetess sold her own ventriloquism as the voice of the God. Therefore, if you wanted to know about the Word, you didn't go to the priests who were know for their ignorance and sexual problems. Rather, you went to the witch who would 'awaken god' and get you a new oracle. Corinth, for instance, cannot be understood without knowing about the Oracle of Delphi and the musical connection.

"Prophesying" in the case of David and in most ancient literature and music are companions:

"Here singing served as a means of inducing ecstatic prophecy (speaking in tongues).

Thus the essential relationship between music and prophecy can be clearly seen.
This relationship also explains why the expression for "
making music" and "prophesying" was often identical in the ancient tongues. origen contra celsum 8.67.
The Hebrew word
Naba signifies not only "to prophesy" but also "to make music." (Quasten, Johannes, Music and Worship in Pagan and Christian Antiquity, p. 39)

Euripides Iphigeneia in Taurus 1123

And you, lady, the Argive penteconter will bear you home; [1125] the wax-bound reed of the

mountain god Pan, piping, will shout to the oars,
and
Phoebus the prophet, with the ring of his seven-stringed lyre,
singing, will guide you well to the gleaming land of the Athenians.
Leaving me here, you will go with
splashing oars. In the breeze, the forestays of the ship that carries you swiftly will spread out over the front beyond the prow.

Origen Book VI, Chapter XLI.

In the next place, as if he had forgotten that it was his object to write against the Christians, he says that, "having become acquainted with one Dionysius, an Egyptian musician,

the latter told him, with respect to magic arts,
that it was
only over the uneducated and men of corrupt morals that they had any power,
while on
philosophers they were unable to produce any effect,
because they were careful to observe a
healthy manner of life."

See Thomas Paine's Intolerance for Uneducated Priests about Prophesying.

May I come to the bright race-course, where the sun's fire goes; [1140] over the chambers of my home, may I cease to flutter the wings on my back. May I take my stand in the dances of glorious marriages, where I stood as a maiden, [1145] twirling about in the dancing bands of other girls, away from my dear mother; rushing on to the contest of charms, the luxuriant strife of hair, I covered my cheeks with the multi-colored veil [1150] and shadowed them with the locks of my hair.

The problem was with the prophetesses who used the "effeminate art of music" as "sugar" to make their false prophesies "go down." History is fairly clear that the "musical prophesying" by men was a sign that they, like the king of Trye (the harp-playing prostitute) wanted to be remembered as male. This was Ezekiel's warning when he delivered the Word by the Spirit of Christ:

"'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind (spirit), and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. Ezek 13:13

"Now, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy (sing and play instruments) out of their own imagination. Prophesy against them Ezek 13:17

and say, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for their heads in order to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own? Ezek 13:18

See the complete details about the women prophesiers Here.

The abominations they committed were most often at the high places where the musical prophesiers tried to work them into a charismatic fit so they would feel the presence of the gods and put a large gift in the collection plate. However, beginning with Solomon and the Temple this was done at a wholesale level right in the temple and at Topheth the place where "the worm dies not and the fire is not quenched."

A word related to the flute, prostitute, stealing one's property or polluting someone is;

Chalal (h2490) khaw-lal'; to bore, i. e. by implication: to wound, to dissolve; figurative: to profane (a person, place or thing), to break one's word, to begin as if by an "opening wedge"; (from 2485) ;

1. to play (the flute): - defile,
2. eat (as common things), gather the grape thereof,
3. take inheritance,
4. pipe, player on instruments,
5. pollute, (cast as) profane self,
6. prostitute, slay (slain), sorrow, stain, wound.

A "praise" word often used by David or other "lost souls" trying to find God is:

Halal (h1984) haw-lal'; a prim. root; to be clear (orig. of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence to make a show, to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causat. to celebrate; also to stultify: - (make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool (- ish, -ly), glory, give [light], be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, [sing, be worthy of] praise, rage, renowned, shine.

This is the meaning of Lucifer:

Heyel (h1966) hay-lale'; from 1984 (in the sense of brightness); the morning-star: - lucifer.

In Greek Lucifer is Phos or Eos or Helios associated with planets or "wandering stars." Eos and therefore Lucifer is both a light giver and a LIFE giver named ZOE.

The shofar or trumpet normally produced a clean, pure tone. These tones even in unison are shown by medical science to be soothing while complex harmony disassociates mind and body and creates anxiety. When the shophar or other wind instruments was made into a flute it could play music. However, it was polluting because the horn shofar had to be pierced or profaned.

Chalal (h2491) khaw-lawl'; from 2490; pierced (espec. to death); fig. polluted: - kill, profane, slain (man), * slew, (deadly) wounded.

Chaliyl (h2485) khaw-leel'; from 2490; a flute (as perforated): - pipe.

The shofar was the only God-ordained instrument to signal His presence. When they polluted or profaned it to make it into a musical instrument they showed little respect for the Law because God doesn't speak with our mouth open just blowing hot air.

"The Shofar is the ritual instrument of the ancient and modern Hebrews, the only Hebrew cultural instrument to have survived until now. Of martial origin, the shofar was a priestly instrument in Biblical times. According to the Mishna, two different forms of shofar were used in the Temple: one made of ibex horn, its bell ornamented with gold, was sounded at New Year and during the Yovel Days; one made of ram's horn, with silver ornamentation, was sounded on fast days.

We learn from the Mishna and the Talmud that in the Hellenistic period no improvements or modifications that might affect the tone were permitted:

no gold-plating of its interior, no plugging of holes, no alteration of its length (the minimum permissible length of a ritually approved horn was 3 handbreadths); the shofar tone was to be preserved unaltered. See Photos HERE.

Musica Antiqua's shofar is really a bone cornette made from a horn of an African ox. It has six fingerholes to aid playing notes between partials of the closed horn.

The people were so consumed with their outlawed "trumpet quartets" and "praise the lord, praise the lord" rituals that they would not hear the musical instruments "drumming" Lucifer's agents into hell. The people who "went in musical procession to the temple" did not hear the hoof beat of either Assyria or Babylonia who came to lead them by fish-hooks in the nose into captivity among the Chaldeans, a term which is equal to "astrologer."

The literal Musical trumpet player condemned:

Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman (overseer): Eze 33:2

If when he seeth the sword (from "to parch through drought") come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Eze 33:3

Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. Eze 33:4

But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow (clang or clatter an instrument) not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchmans hand. Eze 33:6

The spiritual "trumpet player" Approved:

So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. Eze 33:7

When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Eze 33:8

Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live? Eze 33:10

Peter repeated this warning:

If any man speak,
    let him speak as the
oracles of God;
if any man minister,
let him do it as of the ability which God giveth:
that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ,
        to whom be
praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:11
If we speak or sing our own message it is clear that we have no intention of giving God the glory through Jesus Christ. We are praising self even as we cry out "Lord, Lord." But Jesus will say, "I don't remember you ever sitting down and coming to know me. Depart, like I told the women musical morners: Get Out!"

Paul notes in First Corinthians fourteen that the trumpet cannot speak clear language except the warning of warefare. If they spoke in tongues they would be like the clanging cymbal and the booming gong and God could not speak to them.

A watchman came from Jerusalem and told Ezekiel that Jerusalem was smitten or captured. Ezekiel was no longer dumb and God sounded the alarm telling the people how they could escape judgment. In condemning musical worship, which will cease in the idealized temple beginning in chapter 40, God warned that:

Then shall they know that I am the Lord, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed. Eze 33:29

Ezekiel and Jesus Condemned musical Worship as Play

Because the people were violating God's commandment against instrumental rejoicing--which would be involved in the idolatry He has just condemned--God told Ezekiel that they could not hear the trumpet of the Watchman when they were looking for musical triumph music in violation of Numbers 10:7. They had "broken down the walls" between them and pagan idolatry and therefore God warned:

And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day. Eze 2:3

For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God. Eze 2:4

And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. Eze 2:5

And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions:

be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. Eze 2:6

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, Matt 11:16

And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. Matt 11:17

The Prophecy of Attempts to Pollute or Triumph Over Jesus With Judas and Hired Clergy

Almost without exception Paul begins his message by repudiating the smooth speech of the rhetorician who is defined by Jesus as a Hypocrite along with the singers and musicians in Ezekiel 33.

This is in contrast to the SPEAKING of the Word of God without making it rhetorical or poetic.

But as we were allowed of God
to be put in trust with the
gospel,
even so we speak;
not as
PLEASING men, but God, which trieth our hearts. 1 Thess 2:4

This PLEASURING includes all of the performing arts of rhetoric, singing, music and drama.

For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: 1 Thess 2:5

[Gorgias: Socrates [463c] I assign rhetoric; but without noticing that I have not yet answered that, he proceeds to ask whether I do not consider it a fine thing. But I am not going to reply to the question whether I consider rhetoric a fine or a base thing, until I have first answered what it is; for it would not be fair, Polus: but if you want the information, ask me what sort of branch of flattery I assert rhetoric to be.

ALL actors, singers, musicians or speakers belong to the SECT of the Hypocrites:

The hypocrites Jesus pointed to in Isaiah are the same as defined by Ezekiel as follows:

Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord. Eze 33:30

JFB 30. Not only the remnant in Judea, but those at the Chebar, though less flagrantly, betrayed the same unbelieving spirit. talking against thee--Though going to the prophet to hear the word of the Lord, they criticised, in an unfriendly spirit, his peculiarities of manner and his enigmatical style (Eze 20:49); making these the excuse for their impenitence. Their talking was not directly "against" Ezekiel, for they professed to like his ministrations; but God's word speaks of things as they really are, not as they appear.

My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words,
but they do not put them into practice.

With their mouths they express devotion (Lord, Lord as amorousness -
inordinate love),
        but their hearts are
greedy for unjust gain (commerce or trade or attendance). Eze 33:31

Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs (minstrel as a prostitute) with a beautiful voice and plays (make melody on) an instrument well,

for they hear your words but do not put them into practice. Eze 33:32
When all this comes true--and it surely will--then
they will know that a prophet has been among them." Eze 33:33

But now to pass from this to the shameless corruption of the stage. I am ashamed to tell what things are said; I am even ashamed to denounce the things that are done-the tricks of arguments, the cheatings of adulterers, the immodesties of women, the scurrile jokes, the sordid parasites,

The Fulfillment of Attempts to Pollute or Triumph Over Jesus With Judas and Hired Clergy. Earlier, Ezekiel had warned:

They will plunder your wealth and loot your merchandise; they will break down your walls and demolish your fine houses and throw your stones, timber and rubble into the sea. Ezek 26:12

Ye hypocrites (actors), well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, Matt 15:7

Let them alone:they be blind leaders of the blind.

And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. Matt 15:14
The prophets were usually opposed to what was happening in the king's worship rituals. Therefore, Isaiah, Ezekiel and Amos are violently opposed to musical noise either (1) when the enemy (Assyria or Babylon) might be approaching or (2) when the people were supposed to come before the Lord to hear instructions.

If You Add Musical Paganism Without Knowing What You are Doing, You Will Not Just be Adding Joy Juice to Attract the Secular Seekers, You Will Bear The Guilt For Anyone Who Follows You Into Sin Because You Are Trying To Force the Lambs Jesus Placed In Your Care to Dance, whereas He Died To Give Them Rest Beside Still Waters And Experience The Salvation of Freedom From "Anxiety Created By Religious Rituals."

So, Let's go through the process in simple sound-bytes:

Peter said that Jesus was the Spirit of the prophets (1 Peter 1:11) and John said that "the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Revelation 19:10).

This means that many of the things which happened in the Old Testament were "types" or "visual aids" to open the eyes of those who love the truth to understand the fulfillment when Jesus came.

In the New Testament, these events are fulfilled in the life of Jesus or others.

If we just want to have a simple faith, we do not have to know everything about the prophecies. However, if we are leaders with spiritual life and death power over the lives of the lambs of Christ, it is required to understand these vents.

One such event is in Ezekiel. It pictures Jewish men attending all of the performance events hoping that the charismatic speaker, singer, musician or dancer will be a male or female prostitute.

This event was fulfilled in the life of Christ., The Jewish clergy or preachers swarmed around John the Baptist hoping that he wore soft clothing. This would prove that John might be a male prostitute (catamite) like those who were kept by any self-respecting king.

The Jew's religion at this time was under some control of the worshippers of Dionysus or Bacchus. Dionysus was worshipped by females who had left their homes and travelled around to sing, dance, play musical instruments and strip off their clothes.

Because of His "magic" the Jews hoped that Jesus might be Dionysus or Adonis or some other "dying and resurrecting" god. They could put Him through a test much like a lie detector.

If they played their musical instruments and Jesus joined in the chorus or circle of dancers and began to sing the mourning laments then He would be Dionysus the god of new wine actually in Jerusalem. The result would be that they had triumphed over Jesus. Triumph over in both Hebrew and Greek means to sing, play and dance.

If John was not soft they would kill him.

If Jesus didn't dance and sing and join in the musical team they would murder Him anyway because He was not going to allow the cheats at the temple to remain in their jobs.

I don't know how to make this really simple. You will have to read Ezekiel, look at how certain words are defined and then understand how musical "triumphing over" is the sign that the speaker or performer is a religious prostitute.

If you believe that this issue is difficult to understand then picture an eight person, wired up, amplified, swooping and swaying "praise team" performing for you while God may be explaining His mysteries in secret language for the last time. Turn off any tiny sound devices and listen to the "whispered silence" of God's warning.

Making melody or playing well in Ezekiel is defined by the Hebrew:

Nagan (h5059) naw-gan'; beat a tune with the fingers; espec. to play on a stringed instrument; to make music: player on instruments, sing to the stringed instruments, melody, ministrel, play

Naga (h5060) naw-gah'; lay the hand upon (for any purpose; euphem., to lie with a woman); by impl. to reach violently, to strike

Music as an attempt to ascend or descend to the gods or bring Him into your presence was always called "the effeminate art." It was taken over by men who were, as with so much of the performing arts from ancient history onward, effeminate or worse.

This melody describes the king of Tyre who was a harp-playing prostitute:

Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered. Isaiah 23:16

The king of Tyre was a male but he was a visual picture of Lucifer who came equipped with musical instruments. Lucifer was a female. Therefore, the king as a commercial prostitute practiced femine music to attract customers; but the king still wanted to be remembered as a male.

What is the meaning of this melody with instruments which God compares to the musical performance of a prostitue? There are two words which help explain Ezekiel.

Ezekiel uses the word nagan. Psalm 68 uses nagan and Psalm 87 uses chalal (halal praise) to describe the same melody which included musical instruments. Therefore the same event is described by the Hebrew. Look again and remember:

Chalal (h2490) khaw-lal'; figurative:

  1. to profane (a person, place or thing),
  2. to break (one's word), to begin like an "opening wedge");
  3. denom. (from 2485) to play the flute: defile,
  4. gather the grape thereof, take inheritance,
  5. pipe, player on instruments,
  6. pollute, (cast as) profane (self)

Normally, sexual aggitation would be created by the music of the prostitute. Now we know that exciting music creates endorphins or a morphine-like drug. It creates the urge for fight or flight or sex. It tranquilizes the rational part of the brain so that we believe everything the preacher says but we just don't know what he said.

THE STORY TOLD BY AMOS IS THE STORY OF THE WIVES OF THE OFFICIALS TAKING OVER WITH MUSICAL WORSHIP. THIS DEPRIVED THE POOR OF LITERAL AND SPIRITUAL FOOD SO THAT THEY DIED AND WENT INTO CAPTIVITY. MUSIC HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE CAUSE AND SYMBOL OF A PEOPLE WHO ARE LOST BEYOND REDEMPTION BECAUSE THEY HAVE TRIED TO TAKE WORSHIP OUT OF THE SPIRIT OR MIND AND PERFORM IT IN BODY (SEXUAL) FORMS:

Speaking of the religious ritual condemned by Amos and others we note that:
---- "The marzeah had an extremely long history extending at least from the 14th century B.C. through the Roman period. In the 14th century B.C., it was prominently associated with the ancient Canaanite city of Ugarit (modern Ras Shamra), on the coast of Syria... The marzeah was a pagan ritual that took the form of a social and religious association... Some scholars regard the funerary marzeah as a feast for--and with--deceased ancestors (or Rephaim, a proper name in the Bible for the inhabitants of Sheol)." (King, Biblical Archaeological Review, Aug, 1988, p. 35, 35) ---- "These five elements are: (1) reclining or relaxing, (2) eating a meat meal, (3) singing with harp or other musical accompaniment, (4) drinking wine and (5) anointing oneself with oil." (King, p. 37).
"With the wine-drinking (which is the literal meaning of the Hebrew for feasting), went music and dancing." (Heaton, E. W., Everyday Life in Old Testament times, Scribners, p. 93)
---- "Worship was form more than substance; consequently, conduct in the marketplace was totally unaffected by worship in the holy place. Amos spoke from the conviction that social justice is an integral part of the Mosaic covenant, which regulates relations not only between God and people, but also among people." (King, p. 44).
The Battle of Baal and Yahm
  1. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
  2. Aloud they [summon the assembly of the gods/ do cry to those near]. They invite
  3. the distant ones/ those far away, to the assembly of `El
  4. they summon/do cry: "`El remains seated
    [in his
    marzeah/banqueting hall//among his cult-guests (dM)] . . .
  5. The shame of the Eternal One/The shameful conduct of the usurper . . .
  6. O gods, (to) the house of your lord . . .
  7. [Who surely travels (S)/lest he go (D/G) quickly/the Runner will not walk (dM)] through the land, . . .
  8. who goes in the dust (of) destruction/a mess of mud on the ground . . .
Comments: Smith believes lines 7-8 should be interpreted "Either literally, as `El walking through the underworld, or an allusion to `El being "dead drunk," or both metaphorical, and ironic, as the marzeah serves as the setting for feasts for the dead and for the living mourning the dead (p. 145).

"In pagan traditions, musical instruments are invented by gods or demi-gods, such as titans. In the Bible, credit is assigned to antediluvian patriarchs, for example, the descendants of Cain in Genesis 4:21. There is no other biblical tradition about the invention of musical instruments." (Freedman, David Noel, Bible Review, Summer 1985, p. 51). (PROVEN HERE)

Jesus spoke another parable as He warned about those who prophesied but didn't obey His commandments. Prophesying in this sense of saying Lord, Lord was identical to the musical prophesying of the musical guilds which served the civil sanctuary under David and the commanders of the army (1 Chr 25:1)

What can we conclude from this sordid picture.? For one thing we can conclude that if God enjoyed the excitement of musical performance, He painted an ugly picture by associating music and ritual prostitution. This would leave us all confused.

And if musical performance in the worship of God was identical to the musical worship of and by the prostitute, how could we tell whether people were worshipping or hanging around a Corinthian temple listening to the uncovered musical prophesying?

The picture gets uglier when we see Jesus accuse the Jews of trying to get Him involved with the singing and dancing. If God is not really a dancing god , then our musical attempts may be making His "body" of one flesh with the musical prostitute.
