Samaritan Woman at the Well

Kenneth Sublett, Piney.com, Hohenwald, Tennessee

Rubel Shelly uses narrative theology to explain John's narrative theology to explain Jesus' narrative theology to make His repudiation of "both your houses" subverted by musical ritual into a pattern for OFFERING you the equivalent of the baptism of the Holy Spirit in a worship experience.

Must you affirm all denominations? Did the Samaritan woman invite her people to Jesus' "church house?" Does "testing the spirits" and questioning the new Post Modernism prove that you may be harboring some dark, evil sin such as "child molestation?" Do only "legalists" molest children? Are you baptized with the Holy Spirit? Can one person "offer" another person a worship experience?

Has the "in order to" baptismal purpose been removed from your baptistry and replaced with a "because of" sign?

Does the end justify the means of changing the acted parable of Jesus into "hiding the truth from the professionals" into justification for refusing to "go, preach, teach" and inviting others to come have a Gospel experience?

Well, we just want to find out.

Source Reviewed: Jesus and the Samaritan Woman (John 4:1-42)

True Worship

We have looked at Dr. Rubel Shelly's take on the woman at the well in an other review.

Rubel Shelly: Imagines the inspired writers of Scripture to be journalists trying to interpret the "Christ" events to fit their own culture and personal agendas:

Rubel Shelly: I think they were responding to time and place by writing what they wrote.

They had their own personal, theological, pastoral, and evangelistic purposes in mind when they planned and wrote these documents that survive to us in the New Testament.

In the interplay of their free wills and the direction of the Holy Spirit,

they came up with an answer to their version of the question to put to you a few minutes ago.

They had to strain the story of Jesus through philosophical sieves. They had to create and clarify special terms. They made entrance into their circles a matter of "enlightenment" as reflected in peculiar vocabulary and interpretations.

In the meanwhile, the core gospel has survived two millennia now in its narrative form of telling the big story through collections of little ones about Jesus.

With this in mind, Dr. Rubel Shelly and John York gives us permission to write our own narrative because one non-inspired version written by me will be more 'meaningful' than one written by John.

To that end, the lost beyond redemption story of the Exodus is narrated into a "pattern for Christian worship and community."

Now, we will see Jesus putting an end to the temple system of the musical, idolatrous nation of Israel taken over by Samaritans and the musical, idolatrous nation of Judah at Jerusalem. The city where Jesus was crucified is identified in the book of Revelation as "Sodom."

However, the "water of the Word" will be turned into something like the baptism of the Holy Spirit and a worship system "offered" to the local congregation. The "worship in spirit" or in the mind will be narrated into worship in exhilaration or joy. The worship in "truth" is giving heed to the Word of Christ which is Spirit is turned into giving heed to the worship facilitators.

To believe in the conclusions you have to believe that John was not inspired but just constructed his narrative account. You have to believe that the entire Bible has been sifted through time and human philosophy so totally that the only thing which has been pronounced as surviving is the "core" of seven facts about Jesus.

But, if you cannot believe John then perhaps the fact that Christ was God incarnate was sifted IN just as easily as the rest or TRUTH got sifted out.

If the collected fragments are the product of the time and philosophical sifter, then how can the BIG STORY made up of sifted parts be any more inspired than the parts?

Get the idea? And the confession to being Post-Modern means that the "moderns" (you) believe that the Bible is inspired but we latter-day Post-Moderns know that not one bit of it can be used as absolute truth.

If you question US then it may be because YOU have lurking deep in your breast the horrors of child abuse.

However, Rubel Shelly and John York have claimed that John "took liberties" and that they have taken liberties and that you should take liberties to construct your own personal story which is just as good or better than that of Moses.

Therefore, Jesus "parable" condemning the kind of worship flowing out of the City Set on Seven Hills and explaining the only spiritual worship which has been, is now and ever will be, is "Narrated" to teach just the opposite, teach the baptism of the Holy Spirit and psychologically cripple anyone who resists the teaching of the US.

Rubel Shelly: When Jesus got to the nitty-gritty of this woman's life situation with his question about a husband, she got terribly uncomfortable. Of course, she did! Her life was a mess. She'd never had a stable relationship with a man in her adult life - as proved by five failed marriages in her past and a live-in lover at the moment.

[One truly doubts that she cared a widow's mite what Jesus thought! Even the clergy could not dispute that Jesus was the prophesied prophet but they were still willing to kill Him when He threatened to close down their Seeker-Center]

So why did Jesus put her on the spot about her horrible situation?

Here is the answer:

It was to see whether she would retreat into the darkness or step into the light.

[We will see that this was to teach and have John record by Jesus as Spirit the end of the two Seeker-Centers of lust and mercinary evil empowered by musical noise which were the sister whores conceived at Mount Sinai in musical idolatry. This aggressive OFFERING of worship for a price was always quarantined from the masses who were "put outside the camp" when the horror began.]

When I've sinned and my life is in a mess, I have two basic options.

One is the deny, cover up,
fight for more time to fix things, and - more likely than not -
dig a deeper hole for myself.

The other is to confess, come clean, be honest about how helpless I am in the situation, and to ask for someone to show me a way out.

[Sounds like some psychology got sifted in: doesn't sound like the as written story at all.]

That woman's instinctive reaction to her dilemma before Jesus was typical of lots of people I have known.

She tried to dodge the issue of her real need by distracting Jesus with the old Jerusalem-Gerizim debate.

Rather than face the painful truth, her first impulse was to act as if the important thing in her life
was a generations-old religious fight.

[The woman is the "straight man" to allow Jesus to explain that WATER stood for the WORD of God and not the "like the nation's" worship (ecumenical) at either Gerizim or Jerusalem.]

She pretended to need to get straight about some controversial issue that was irrelevant to her real need.

She was trying to avoid the painful truth about herself,

but Jesus let her know that God was searching for people who would
worship in spirit and truth.

[She now has her second incarnation as those who do not sing and dance while I pipe. It is just hard to imagine this scene: The preacher sees a child torturing another child who will not dance when they pipe. The evil child says: "Why I go to that old legalistic, pharasaical, fire-bombing church down on the street called straight."]

We find it hard to believe that this woman cared what Jesus thought about her past life. Isn't it possible that the woman was intelligent enough and knew enough history to ask a legitimate question? Do we not marginalize all women when this prototype "dialoger with God" gets dismissed as a prototype of those who want to turn all religious dialog into a "who is rightest" dodge?

Let's not be so harshly judgmental and assume that it was a serious question and that Jesus was not a modern "anointed of God" who cannot be questioned without being accused of probably harboring some deep, evil secret about molesting his children.

If Jesus came to me I might say: "We have turned church into Holy Entertainment to ignore your Word." But others have turned church into a 'national' temple to demonstrate their phallic pride. Now, what do you think?

Does this prove that I have some deep emotional scar which drives me into such radical divisiveness among the brethren? Or, is it a sincere question?

Jesus didn't say, "Ah Haaa! caught you you little whore. You were just trying to DIVERT my mind by church house politics."

This is still an important question: Do we DO worship like the Samaritans with wine, women and music, or do we DO worship with wine, MALES and music? The choice is between Saturn (Seitan, Satan) under the name of Molech (Jerusalem) or Chiun (Gerizim).

Jesus would answer: "You don't DO worship for ME. Me doesn't even DO or "offer" worship for ME. ME just reads the word, speaks the Word and gives heed or meditates or makes melody in MY heart or spirit. YOU cannot get into that any more than YOU can OFFER me a "venue" for loving MY wife!

You and your embarassing concept of "musical worship team" would become a human sacrifice and your blood would flow down the river of animal blood if you tried to get into the holy precincts with your animal-burning "music."

But, music which is always abrading (the meaning of melody) always shoves its way through my ears using "ear worms" to try to "Lead me into the presence of God." Such beyond-redemption arrogance!

Now the Application of the Misunderstanding

We have made a bright red border for the premise of this discussion of the Samaritan women so that you don't miss the conclusion to the sermon later: That the defenders of "orthodoxy" who tries to refute the teachings of US will have to endure the psychological molestation that you will be STIGMATIZED as a child abuser. No wonder that to review our AWESOME preacher is tantamount to "Slandering a Celestial Being!"

Rubel Shelly: Have you ever seen that sort of thing happen? I once referred a young woman to a therapist in this city to help her deal with the abuse she had suffered at the hands of her father.

He was a preacher, a defender of orthodoxy, a hair-splitting legalist of the first order.

I cannot help believing that his religion was a shelter from spirituality,

that his angry indictments of so many of us were nothing more than distractions from the personal evils he could not bring into the light of Christ's presence.

Do you suppose that all child molesters or "Spirit mollesters" are orthodox preachers and hair-splitting legalists?

Are we to suppose that the end-time "flood" of water against the non-instrumental churches is hiding some deep dark secret?

Well, we certainly hope not. But theatrical performance has always had its own stigma.

The lust for "holy theater" to replace the Word of Christ is truly built upon a universal Biblical, Classical, church history and modern theater exposure to some serious questions. For instance, "music" creates endorphins and other chemical abuse of the body and mind. Endorphins produce the impulses of fight and flight and sexual fantasy with the "artists." Many members flee, the truly masculine are enraged and want to fight but the effeminate lust to engage in holy sex with God: that is the Vineyard claim and legacy.

See the hand clapping, hand raising, rolling in the floor parallel from a Madison member.

No, Jesus set up this situation and had it recorded to show that performed religion has never been acceptable to God Who IS Spirit or Mind and cannot be worshiped with the "body."

Rubel Shelly: True worship arises from a humble, seeking spirit, not a special location.

Even so, it must be offered in truth (i.e., integrity, openness) and not from behind a mask of religious make-believe. We haven't left the discussion of living water here.

We believe that Jesus said that spiritual worship is "performed" within the spiritual realm of the human mind or spirit. You cannot force this to say that WE OFFER you a free ride into the presence of God but YOU must have a good mental attitude to get a ride on a comet or shooting star.

Gerizim and Jerusalem temples are PLACES. Therefore "in spirit" is also a PLACE. The spirit is the human spirit or mind (nous) which is the only place God seeks (first part of the worship team of two) us in the holy place (naos). John was not inside of the person called the Holy Spirit but John was in his spirit or his mind on the Lord's day.

Jesus was not remotely hinting that you can construct a new "temple" as the carnal meeting place for worship in spirit as long as you are "offer exhilarated" by the presumptions worship team.

You cannot do anything but interfere with my In Spirit worship. Worship is in my mind (nous) which is the holy place (naos) where only one 'priest' and God can meet at the same time.

As a baptized believer I can come boldly before His Throne of Grace.

If you as musician or speaker try to escort me into the throne room you will be "run through with the Sword of the Spirit" and you will be spiritually dead just as a Levite who was so presumptious as to "offer" a Jew worship. The "musical" Levites made their great crashing sound to make sure that all of the non-state people were outside the gates: quarantined from the seekers.

Musical performance is not, has never been an operative WORSHIP WORD for a Spirit God. It is 100% "borrowing" or SIFTING from pagan cults as the Jewish Encyclopedia is honest enough to confess.

You cannot OFFER worship for me on any terms. And I cannot offer worship if we are told that SINGING IDLE (IDOL) SONGS WITH MUSICAL WORSHIP TEAMS is connected to my personal worship. Please, in the interest of spiritual life, don't you try to 'lead me into the presence of God with a musician." He will just get terminally wounded by the Sword of the Spirit.

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Heb 11:5

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him

must believe that he exists and
that he rewards those who
earnestly seek him. Heb 11:6

Ekzeteo (g1567) ek-zay-teh'-o; from 1537 and 2212; to search out, i.e. (fig.) investigate, crave, demand, (by Hebr.) worship: - en- (re-) quire, seek after (carefully, diligently).

In the Old Testament and in the future and in the "now is" worship was seeking God through His Word and in the human spirit: David sang and meditated on his bed.

None of those who pleased God did so by "faith only" but by faith which was activated to obey the specific command each time God spoke to them.

Rubel Shelly: Jesus is just going back to it by another route. The secret to true worship is not a mountain, human structure, or ritual. It is the

empowering presence of "the Spirit of truth" (cf. 14:17) who renews not just the worship experience but the worshipper herself.

Jesus said that He would be with two or three gathered in His Name which means by His authority. Christ put His Spirit into the Words which He spoke but which Dr. Shelly claims has been SIFTED so completely that one has to rely upon a "charismatic evangelist selected and empowered by the sovereign grace of God."

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

The only truly "worship" word which defines a collective group is speaking the Word of Christ or Spirit one to another as the "Spirit of Truth" part. Then we sing and make melody or mediatate on the inspired Words in our own heart or Spirit.

Christ renews through the Water of The Word and not intoxication (drunk on ignorance) for a new wineskin religion. No Spiritual renewal happens unless we honor the Spirit or Mind of God which He can put into words as easily as He put into Himself as the Living Word.

Clement of Alexandria noted that:

"For the image of God is His Word, the genuine Son of Mind,

the Divine Word, the archetypal light of light; and the image of the Word is the true man,

the mind which is in man, who is therefore said to have been made "in the image and likeness of God," assimilated to the Divine Word in the affections of the soul, and therefore rational. (See 1 Cor. 2 to see that the Holy Spirit is the Mind of Christ)

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Gen 1:26

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Pet 1:19

Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 1 Peter 1:11

See the Word Spirit parallel.

If you try to force people to worship WITH THEIR BODIES then you are OFFERING carnal worship:

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

THERE is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,

So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God;

who walk not after the flesh,

but with the flesh the law of sin. Romans 7:25

but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1

Worship as "experience" sounds a bit legalistic. However, the "spirit" of Christ which renews, the spirit of Truth, is not some little man (Spirit) in the big man (me) making my body feel with its human sensual elements and be convinced that this is worship. God is pure or Holy Spirit and to worship Him with out spirit we must have the "seven spirits" which rested on Jesus: these are all related to the mind or spirit and not remotely connected to the carnal flesh stimulus as spiritual fornicating:

AND there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: Isa 11:1

And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; Isa 11: 2

And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: Isa 11: 3

But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. Isa 11: 4

No, Jesus didn't die to affirm the Samaritans until they became Christians and we know that this happened when they "approved God's righteousness by accepting the counsel fo God for their lives." Quick understanding does not mean "exhilarated" or made charismatic:

Ruwach (h7306) roo'-akh; a prim. root; prop. to blow, i. e. breathe; only (lit.) to smell or (by impl. perceive (fig. to anticipate, enjoy): - accept, smell, * touch, make of quick understanding.

If you peddle the CORE GOSPEL and deny the inspiration of the New Testament writers then you deny Christ. This is because you do not have the "spirit" or are quick of understanding.

Contrary to the pagan view that "praise empowers the gods to make sure they keep the goodies'' or even a sexual climax of exhilaration coming, worship is not a LEGALISTIC RITUAL OR EXPERIENCE WHICH REGENERATES THE HUMAN SOUL.

If "worship empowers" then worship is a WORK OF HUMAN HANDS for which we expect the WAGE of some direct experience with The Holy Spirit as a separated person of the "god family."

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another [more of the same, not different] Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; John 14:16

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14:17

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. John 14:18

For where two or three are gathered (sunago synagogued) together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Mt.18:20

The comforter and intercessor is Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is not another "person" who intercedes and neither does the musical worship team bring you into the presence of God. That is, musical worship teams are not the priests and mediators as they claim to be. Such a claim is a terminal sin.

The "name" singular of Father, Son and Spirit is "Jesus" or Jehovah-Saves: God does not have three names. When the Spirit Christ came He "came in the name of Christ." Therefore, when He appeared to Paul He did not give him a separate NAME of "the holy spirit" but said: "I am Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus materializes in the presence of a hated person needing the WATER OF THE WORD and if you try to make her happy out of an old wineskin God will get you.

Jesus promised to be with "two or three" but since it was prophesied that He would not "call an assembly" one doubts that He would enter a "temple" of several thousand where Sister Singers are flaunting sexual authority and violating Paul's direct command.

Rubel Shelly:"This is worship not tied to holy places but impacted by a holy Person who thorugh his cross will inaugurate the era in which the Holy Spirit will change everything."[2]

The Spirit of Christ tore down the 'buildings and grounds' for the third time and He will not be in the "city" or in the "camp." He has never been worshiped in a spiritual sense in houses built by human hands or the worship of music as the most works-intensive legalism one can imagine.

The change will be to "remove the burden of the clergy" wihch was "spiritual anxiety created by religious ritual." He came to give "rest" from the temple turkeys where instrumentalists were not 'musicians' but slave drivers and temple 'service' was never spiritual worship but "hard bondage" imposed on Israel because of their musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.

The change is that Jesus fired the "doctors of the law" Scribes (book writers) or Pharisees from the synagogue because they did and do "take away the key to knowledge." He deilvered Spirit in His Words so that anyone cam come to the free waters of the Word without charge (Isaial 55:1) and without 'private interpretation' which means 'further expounding.' The presumptious sermonizers and versifiers are further expounders and Christ fired them, shut down their collection plates. Furthermore, He sent the honest preachers out to preach the word "as it has been taught." They are ministers and not masters and do not try to build an idol temple to get out of "going into all the world."

Conclusion

Rubel Shelly: For that woman, the spiritual renewal she had needed for so long apparently began at that moment. Even as the blind disciples returned, saw the woman, and thought only in terms of rejecting rather than including her, she ran back to her village.

Jesus offered her "living waters" and not salvation prior to water baptism. And the Samaritan was told to go and sin no more but we don't have the slightest notion that this was the begining point of her salvation. We don't even know whether she went out and got a dozen more husbands. Jesus didn't speak of baptism because she was not a Jew and not subject to John's baptism as "accepting the counsel of God for their lives" and Christian baptism could not be offered to anyone prior ot His resurrection.

The living water is Spirit or the Word but it is not instant salvation to anyone who asks: "Is this the messiah?" Nor is the living water "another person" who will move your bones into life to the beat of erotic praise songs just disgusting the masculine part of the world.

When you try to put it into a "new wineskin" it would be like putting it into a new billy goat skin.

Rubel Shelly: There this woman with a soiled reputation had no credibility for bearing witness to Jesus and repeating his word to her about being the Christ. So she simply used a version of the come-and-see approach to sharing Jesus we have already seen in the Fourth Gospel (cf. 1:39, 46). "Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done!" she said breathlessly. "He cannot be the Messiah, can he?" (4:29). The people went to see for themselves - and were brought to faith in significant numbers.

Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me everything I have ever done." So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them; and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world" (4:39-42).

If their "faith only" saved them it did so before Jesus was crucified and resurrected. Jesus didn't "preach Christ" to the Woman or tell her how to become a disciple.

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. Acts 8:5

And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. Acts 8:6

For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. Acts 8:7

And there was great joy in that city. Acts 8:8

But when they believed Philip preaching the

things concerning the kingdom of God, and
the
name of Jesus Christ,

they were baptized, both men and women. Acts 8:12

The Apostles came down to lay hands on those who were to receive the Holy Spirit Who gifted certain men in the early churches.

Now, the woman didn't invite the people to the latest temple with errected Asherah poles, to Jerusalem or to Gerizim. Jesus had already gone into the world: He preached because "for this reason I came out."

This would be like an honest evangelist going to a muslim country and speaking to an unveiled woman. He has exposed his life for the gospel in keeping with Paul's definition of those worthy of support. He has made "contact" and now the people gather to him in the streets and he preaches to them. He worries for his life. He has no ornate temple to attract them but He projects the Spirit of Christ out of the cultural places of wealth and decadence: Gerizim, Jerusalem, Nashville.

Only then can this be honestly used as patternism for "evangelism" through musical performance to keep the "evangelist" located much like a "located traveling salesman."

Rubel Shelly: I think John chose to include this story in his Gospel in order to affirm the Samaritans and Gentiles he knew as his sisters and brothers in Christ at the end of the first century.

We don't think that is the truth! We believe that John believed that He was recording actual events and that the purpose was to show that the Law was for the lawless but that all people are included in Christ when they are baptized into Christ:

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Gal 3:24

But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Gal 3: 25

By excluding physical PLACE as necessary, Jesus excluded a priestly-clergy system.

The law as schoolmaster used the oriental incentive: a whack over the head. We are no longer to "teach one another" with this system. Because all are to be competent teachers, the direct command of Paul was that we are to teach one another. The new worship would deliberately an anointed "clergy class" and restore the evangelists to the role of teachers.

The Real meaning: By removing the Temples Jesus Fired the Happy Tutors

"It is possible that some spiritual immaturity today may arise from other causes. It may be produced by a failure to provide an adequate program of Bible instruction for the whole church. It may be the result of indifference and lack of a real desire to know the rich things of the Word. Too often people have assumed that all the Bible should be as simple as kindergarten lessons. It that were true, it is doubtful if there would ever be such a thing as a full grown Christian. The usual Sunday morning scolding which the church receives for not doing this will only make the situation worse. (Applebury, T. R., Studies in Second Corinthians, p. 51 College Press)

When we "set a king over us" we fall back into the oriental idolatry and are forced to worship the performing STARS. From this "ascended" position it becomes tempting to ignore the totality of the beyond-redemption history of Israel and turn it into a pattern for Christian "worship and community."

This makes the Samaritan, Jew, Gentile divisions of mankind automatic.

The result is the same as in the divided history of Israel: we are so removed from the Word of God because we have "offered" a "worship" service calculated to keep the "audience" as ignorant as possible. This ignorance, however, is the God-Selected reason that John who was "guided into all truth" did not select this "fragment" and make it into a narrative theology to meet the needs of his own agenda.

John certainly did not affirm people "of other faiths" as a patern which we must follow. Rather, there can be nothing but children of God in his "family" and we are not so God Like that we have to be judgmental and declare everyone who believes as "OK with me."

If you miss use the Word of God written under the Spirit of Christ then you may be deliberately keeping people in the dark.

Without this Christ-Selected acted parable recorded by John under Christ's inspiration you cannot remotely grasp the Woman at the Well parable. Therefore, the facts must be manipulated to make Scripture conform to the practices of modern musical idolatry of talent.

When Israel fell back into musical idolatry at Mount Sinai, God "turned them over to worship the starry host. Later, when Israel demanded a king "like the nations" so that they could "worship like the nations" God totally turned them over to a national system. God "gave them a king in his anger and took him away in His wrath."
When Solomon used the "musical" Levites to oversee the building of the temple with slave labor and selling entire cities, the people were ready to rebel. Within 5 years of Solomon's death the Egyptians had come for their gold and a civil war divided the Israelits into Israel in the North and Judah in the South.

Gerizim

This Star Worship or idolatry is seen practiced in Samaria in Amos 5 and 6. This resulted in the rejection of the Word and the total captivity and largely death of Israel. The sin was musical idolatry. The "gods" were Remphan or Chiun as images of Saturn. The thirst was for the "water" of the word. The sin was charismatic worship.

Samaritans were baptized to remove the sin and make them suitable for a spiritual kingdom

Inanna dominant feminist goddess: Tammuz/Inanna Central to both Gerizim and Jerusalem. Inanna got the patron god of music drunk and:

He gave me truth.
He gave me decent into the underworld.
The seven gates of hell prevailed.
He gave me ascent from the underworls.
He gave me the art of lovemaking.
He gave me the art of kissing the phallus.
He gave me the art of prostitution.
He gave me the resounding musical instrument.
He gave me the art of song.
He gave me the art of the elder.

Jerusalem

The people of Judah worshiped Molech and burned babies in the idol's red hot arms to the beat of dancing, singing, clapping and instrumental music. Isaiah 5 shows that this was the "vineyard" whose owner they killed and the nation went captive because the Word was lost and they died of "thirst" for the Word.

Jews were baptized to get into Christ.

The "living water" is not related to baptism.

Ishtar or Inanna (Easter) and Tammuz were worshiped in the temple in Jerusalem.

Christ died for the sins of all people. This removed the "burden" of the performing clergy and gave people rest. He defined worship as it had always been for spiritual people: in their own mind or spirit as they gave heed to His Word. This Word has always been symbolized as God's FREE water not related to clergy or temple (Isaiah 55). "Church" served the purpose of synagogue or school and not pagan worship center.

Music was never in any dispensation related to the worship of God. Rather, it was the weapon of paganism. Therefore, spiritual worship involves "filling up with the water of the Word" and then speaking to one another with only inspired texts or it ceases to be "water."

Therefore, John recorded just what Jesus did as acted parables to reveal His message to the spiritual mind and hide it from the carnal mind. This event had the God-premeditated purpose of repudiating the two forms of musical idolatry which had destroyed both nations.

The "type result" of the Old Testament was that the clergy "stole the water of the Word." The sin was in "offering spiritual or charismatic worship" The cure was to take the "worship teams" off people's back so that they could worship without "worship drivers."

In a direct parallel, Paul in Romans 14 defines the vegetarian, musical, Orphic background along with the meat-eating, wine-drinking, musical Dionysic background.

His solution was to "worship God in spirit and in truth" by speaking the revealed Word of God "with one mouth." This is a direct parallel to the "singing" passages.

There is not and never has been a musical concept in connection with the spiritual worship of a Spirit God.

So, Jesus said that Samaritans and Jews can worship together if they give up their "denominational" dogma and just worship "in spirit" or in their minds as they give heed to the Word of Christ which are Spirit and Life.

John didn't get exiled or boiled in oil because he affirmed all churches as ok with me. He was persecuted because he told them: "No, you cannot belong to the Temple of the Pagan Priestess." You have to "come out of her" and be washed just like a newborn baby to get all of the blood off.

Misusing Scripture Disqualifies one as a Son of God

Jesus defined His nature as "Son" by the fact that He only spoke that which He heard from the "Father." Therefore, a son of God is one who has obeyed the direct command of Jesus to be baptized. If the Samaritan woman was ever "affirmable" it was because she was later baptized.

Paul said that children of God have been baptized into Christ:

How: For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Gal 3: 26

When: For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal 3: 27

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal 3: 28

And if ye be Christs, then are ye Abrahams seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal 3: 29

When you construct your own "narrative theology" you might fail to read the Text. Jesus did not remotely affirm the Samaritans as Samaritans or Gentiles as Gentiles in their existing state.

Or did Jesus affirm them and John "narrated it" to make it slick enough to swallow? Or did Jesus NOT affirm the "other denominations" and Doctor narrates John to make John's denial into an affirmation?

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. John 4:20

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, (as Samaritans) nor yet at Jerusalem (as Jews), worship the Father. John 4: 21

Ye worship ye know not what:

we know what we worship; for salvation is of the Jews. John 4: 22

For those of us who can take a hing, this sounds like: "Musical worshipers you have no Biblical authority for your pagan practices. You worship ye know not what." They knew that they worshiped "wine women and song" but they didn't get that from the Bible.

Now, let's get it straight: the Samaritans worshiped the Starry host to which God had turned the Israelites over to because of their musical idolatry at Mount Sinai. The Samaritans are defined in Amos 5 and 6 where their religious festivals were with "wine, women, song, instrumental music and exhilarated sexual rituals." Jesus did not affirm this and neither did John.

The non-institutional Jews never worshiped at the temple because when the music sounded the sacrificial system they were put "outside the camp" and their literal, "bondage" worship was to fall on their face. When Jews "worshiped" they did so just like everyone had always "done" it and still "do" it.

Click for some notes on worship IN spirit and devoted only to the truth: the Word of Christ.

True worshipers under Moses or Christ are never said to have worshiped with rituals. Rather,

Ye have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment? Mal 2:17

BEHOLD, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom Mal 3:1 ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.

But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiners fire, and like fullers soap: Mal 3:2

Seek is: Baqash (h1245) baw-kash'; a prim. root; to search out (by any method, spececially in worship or prayer); by impl. to strive after: - ask, beg, beseech, desire, enquire, get, make inquisition, procure, (make) request, require, seek (for).

Before condemning the musical worship, Amos demanded that they "seek" God through His Word.

When the Lord Jesus suddenly came, He honored the Father by speaking only what He heard in His Mind which is the Spirit (1 Cor. 2). Of course, this does not exclude dialog or explaining in human terms spiritual concepts. Nor, does it exclude using parallel passages to support the passage.

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. Jn. 12:49

And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. Jn 12:50

We can only conclude that when a sermon is built on a "proof-text" as launchpad, there is no intention of imitating Jesus or of transfering "Spirit" in either sermon or song. See Dabney on how Christ wanted "preaching" to take place.

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

Worship in spirit is not worship by listening and admiring sermonizing or versifying sentimental stuff. You almost can no longer "worship in spirit in church" which has been defeated by the musical, theatrical performers:

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24

Clement of Alexandria, Stromata:

Or go to the bee, and learn how laborious she is; for she, feeding on the whole meadow, produces one honey-comb.

And if "thou prayest in the closet," as the Lord taught, "to worship in spirit," Note 75

Note 75: But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret (Covered or hidden); and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Matt 6:6

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Col.3:3

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23

Proseuchomai (g4336) pros-yoo'-khom-ahee; from 4314 and 2172; to pray to God, i.e. supplicate, worship: - pray (* earnestly, for), make prayer.

Prosecho (g4337) pros-ekh'-o; from 4314 and 2192; (fig.) to hold the mind (3563 impl.) towards, i.e. pay attention to, be cautious about, apply oneself to, adhere to: - (give) attend (-ance, - ance at, -ance to, unto), beware, be given to, give (take) heed (to, unto) have regard.

Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 1Ti.4:13

For the Jews require signs," in order to faith; "and the Greeks seek after wisdom," plainly those reasonings styled "irresistible," and those others, namely, syllogisms. "But we preach Jesus Christ crucified; to the Jews a stumbling-block,"

because, though knowing prophecy, they did not believe the event:

"to the Greeks, foolishness; "for those who in their own estimation are wise, consider it fabulous that the Son of God should speak by man and that God should have a Son, and especially that that Son should have suffered.

Whence their preconceived idea inclines them to disbelieve. For the advent of the Saviour did not make people foolish, and hard of heart, and unbelieving, but made them understanding, amenable to persuasion, and believing.

But those that would not believe, by separating themselves from the voluntary adherence of those who obeyed,

were proved to be without understanding, unbelievers and fools.

"But to them who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God."

Rubel Shelly: It is still a powerful anecdote from the life of our Savior

to affirm the value of people we tend to marginalize,
to challenge our racism,
to rebuke us for our attachment to tradition over truth,

To help us see our propensity for playing church and splitting hairs

over learning to worship the Father in spirit and truth,

to remind us of the simple come-and-see strategy for evangelizing.

One of the oldest superstitions going along with the magical "praise leaders" is that the temple is "an instrument of evangelizing." The Cathedrals were built as Seeker Centers to suck paying members to their new "fair towns."

This, of course, just sucks the physical and emotional energy and money right out of the hands of the dedicated preacher-evangelist.

We say again, that Jesus didn't come to "affirm" the Samaritans or Gentiles in their sins. Rather, He came to turn them from their OLD RELIGION which created evil results and turn them to Himself which did not happen at the Well but when the Samaritans were baptized. They did not receive the Spirit in a SIGN sense until the apostles went up afterward. Speaking in tongues was a SIGN but not an empowerment:

No man ever spoke in tongues outside of the arm's reach of an apostle.

No womean ever spoke in tongues within the arm's reach of an apostle and Paul prohibited it in Corinth.

We are compelled to remind the readers of proof-texting that Jesus was "going out to preach." Therefore, this does not fit a mega-mega church or "temple" like Gerizim or Jerusalem but fits only those who have gone out to preach. You will notice that Jesus didn't call the Samaritan woman to Jerusalem but He was out where she lived.

You cannot possibly bring people into a temple complex and "learn them to worship God." What an outrage. Worship takes only a few truths: first, God is worshiped only in your own spirit or mind or heart. That is the only PLACE God will ever be looking for you. Second, worship is giving heed to the Word of God. Giving heed to the Word or giving attendance to the public reading of the Word is the only "collective" thing which is called "worship" other than the literal falling on the face which the outsider would do if he by the most uncommon accident went into a church and saw it wholly devoted to the Words of Christ.

You cannot do that by giving heed to the brother and sister singers singing their own erotic praise songs trying to bring the audience to a climax.

Jesus said: "Don't go out looking for the kingdom because the kingdom is within you." Don't commit the unforgivable sin by claiming that "we have it over here." Next, Paul said that to find Jesus we have to "go outside the camp." That was where the common Jews always were when the shedders of blood, burners of animals and makers of a great, crashing, horrifying sound (not music) performed their 'like the nationss' sacrifices because that is what God turned them over to."

So, never believe it when people claim the title of "evangelist" but refuse to "go out" preaching to CONVERT and not affirm the Samaritans and Gentiles of the world. Paul will say to the Hebrews that when you know the Word of truth and turn from it back to the sacrificial music then you have committed the unforgivable sin: you have fallen and you are never going to get up. That is the story of all "musical" worship in the Old Testament.

Now, a concluding idea for the premise: that the woman at the well is somehow the 'proof text' for the enemies of "US" suffering from the unconfessed horrows of child abuse:

Rubel Shelly: You may have been "hit between the eyes" by a different one of these points of emphasis than sobered me or the person seated closest to you. The common point for us all is the necessity for honesty before Christ.

Don't retreat to some safe place of dark concealment you have created for yourself. Nothing is hidden from God!

And it is far better to deal with that issue now in the painful light of his holy presence than

to live in self-judgment until it is exposed at the end. The path to faith is marked by honesty at every step along the way.

Perhaps this will reveal some deep, dark psychological secret I should keep in the closet, but it seems that from a coherent grasp of the Old Testament including the horrors of Mount Sinai and the musical worship which destroyed both Gerizim and Jerusalem in time, that Jesus was condemning both divisive "wings" of Jewish background for having turned "giving heed" to the Word of God into Unholy Entertainment trying to "offer worship" for others.

Both lost the word for their entire nation by using musical rituals to keep the people ignorant and starved into captivity and death for lack of the Word of God.

So, Jesus said that Samaritans and Jews can worship together if they give up their "denominational" dogma and just worship "in spirit" or in their minds as they give heed to the Word of Christ which are Spirit and Life.

Sorry, but my defense of the Word against those who strip it of everything but "seven facts about Jesus" doesn't make me need to confess to child abuse.

My "dark place" is my computer center and library: I do feel coffee logged, at times but God repudiates the constant connection of the non-ceremonial legalism church with fire bombing abortion clinics and now perhaps harboring child abuse. From another sermon:

Rubel Shelly: How do you feel toward the animal activists who firebomb restaurants that serve meat, destroy animal research labs at university hospitals, or assault people who wear fur? Don't these actions cross the line between strong convictions and mean intolerance, between differences of opinion and onerous intimidation?

And that's how our neighbors have seen us on our more strident days about instrumental music. Basic civility and tolerance do not compromise either your strong conviction or your personal preference.

To fight the battles we have fought and to make the judgments we have made about these aspects of our worship practice has sometimes been nothing less than idolatry, and I want no part of such distractions from seeking God himself.

And at ACU Rubel Shelly used the following terms:

He demands that non-musical churches fellowship instrumental churches to escape the horrors of being: "fratricidal, traditionalist, legalists, unChristian posture, schismatic, Satanic, sectarian, idolatrous, irrelevant, just pushing junk."

Other friends have added "pharisaical, racists, sectarian."

Does that all add up to the "RACA" word?

I just hate it when I have to remind everyone that there is no music as worship in an approved sense in the entire Bible. There is simply no rationale for "music" if you are a minimalist grasper of the Words of Christ. The "Water" is spirit because the water is the Words of Christ. They are the earthen vessels into which an Infinite God has placed His power: if He had the power to place that power in the lowest and most despised human body then why do you continue to repudiate God by denying that He has the power to do it with words.

Secondly, "music" in worship is not a sign of superiority that ceremonial legalists trying to lead you into ascending to Christ with music are freed from child molesting which "some of you" are apparently hiding.

Rather, "music" as worship is universally associated with the effeminate, homosexual "body worship." They tried to "pollute" Jesus into the effeminate Dionysus dance and song to "triumph over him" In the Greek images of the Judas bag, the singers-dancers-instrumentalists are often naked and on the attack seeking a brother seeker.

They hoped that John "wore soft clothing" of the king's catamite: male homosexual. Click to take a look at just a few notes.

And some of he effeminate background. and Part Two

Here, we are "dancing on the rim" and the little arrow points to the Judas Bag which was "for carrying the mouthpieces of wind instruments." And it was prophesied that Judas would try to triumph over Jesus where triumph over means to "play the wind instruments and make a joyful noise before the Lord." This was not worship: it was the army battle cry as the Jews went after Jesus by identifying Him as Beliar. The sticks are ox goads to prop up the players, singers and dancers who are performing the original New Wineskin Worship.

Because I love to recap: those who don't approve of musical instruments as "worship" are somehow in this various sermons are associated with or are just:

>Traditionalist, sinful perversionists, jeopardizers of souls, like early inveighers against women, religious sloganeers, acrimonious, battlers, history bound, holding peculiarities, distinctive doctrines (strange), pronouncers of ringing anathema, passing judgment, defenders of a legacy, condemns others to hell, much like peanut denying plane riders, like fire bombers of restaurants, like destroyers of animal research hospitals, like those assaulting people who wear furs, mean and intolerant, onerous intimidators, idolaters, distracters from God, treat non-use of instruments as important as the atonement.

Now, some of you may oppose "us" because you are a child abuser.

Final exam: why should we believe the accusation of being "judgmental" when when all of the swarm of preachers on the non-instrumental payroll are so antagonistic toward those who do not "affirm" Samaritans and Gentiles who undoubtedly use "Sister Singers" and instrumental music?

While the brutal attack on non-ecumenical churches goes on, you might want to read how preachers are defined

However, all of this is probably to mask the huge destructiveness of movements like Jubilee which has given rise to "Holy Entertainment" to replace the Word. Isn't it about time that rather than condemning the "reactionaries to Us" that some of the Nashville wrecking crew "come out" and confess that they wrecked at least two towers of strength in Nashville?
