The Day of God's Wrath - New Wine in New Wineskins

The Day of God's Wrath or New Wine from the New Wineskins means: And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad. Wine is the universal symbol of God pouring out His wrath upon those who do not honor His Word.

You should read our comments on the New Wineskins Parable from Mark.

See how the Disciples SIGN ON

In that article we noted that the new wineskins comments were to ridicule the Jewish clergy for asking questions which any child should understand. After Jesus explains His actions which were contrary to the silly rules of the clergy, Jesus gave some illustrations. The wineskin examples are simply to poke fun at the Jews before He "broke fellowship" with them and removed His disciples. We showed with a chart what Jesus was saying:

And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? Mark 2: 18

And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. Mark 2: 19 (You can never fast as a act of magic.)

But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. Mark 2: 20

O silly religionists don't you grasp the most elementary principle?

No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment; else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse. Mark 2: 21

And no man putteth new wine into old bottles (wineskins): else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles. Mark 2: 22

The self-evident comments about storing wine and mending clothes to ridicule the Pharisees in chapter two is replaced in chapter three with a direct statement about the grief in Jesus' heart caused by men who have neither intelligence nor heart:

AND he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. Mark 3:1
And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. Mark 3:2
And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. Mark 3:3
And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. Mark 3:4
And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. Mark 3:5
And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. Mark 3:6

Was Jesus a Sectarian?

But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea, Mark 3:7

So many people left the old wineskin rituals to listen to the Words of Christ that He moved His "pulpit" over pure water. Afterward,

And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. Mark 3:13

And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, Mark 3:14

Now the teaching is clear: the clergy were ignorant, evil and anti-Christ.

What the professional new wineskins clergy -- then and now -- believed. We will repeat the chart:

And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? Mark 2: 18

And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. Mark 2: 19 (You can never fast as a act of magic.)

But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. Mark 2: 20

Modern versions claim that while Jesus' answer was about "fasting"

but NOW we say that He was really defining a new, charismatic worship formula:

And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles. Mark 2: 22

This means to them that Jesus -- right out of the blue and the context -- said that the "church" as the wineskin must be flexible in order to hold the ongoing ferment. This ferment then means worship rituals which are "exhilarating" because people are getting drunk on the Spirit.

The new wineskin merchants cannot see the context and conclude that Mark 2:21-22 is not part of the context of the Jew's legalist, inhumane and anti-christ doctrine which often violated the Law. By lifting out verse 21 they can preach long sermons proving that Jesus was teaching that the Kingdom and the Gospel were not yet cooked when He died. Therefore, the kingdom and gospel are still fermenting. That means that if you leave the wine in the old winekin of the historical first-century church, your old church will just blow up and you will waste the gospel and hinder the kingdom of God. Therefore, you must be willing to make the church as much like the world as possible to "be all things to all people."

To the Pharisees and Scribes, the sign of an old wineskins is that conservative, Bible-based theology is not "expansive" enough to include fellowship with diverse worship practices. Fellowship demands that you actually endorse and participate in so-called worship rituals even if you do not approve. Otherwise, you are guilty of the blood of Jesus. The unforgivable sin is that you don't sing the new "praise the lord" songs composed by infantile and quite poor poets peddling Scriptural error.

The signs of a new wineskins church are choirs, instrumental music, theatrical performances, relevant songs from Rock, Rap, and Contemporary Christian Music (the penultimate oxymoron). New wine in the new wineskin produces worship experiences which are "exhilarating" or enthusiastic (which to Paul and Philo meant "insane with the gods inside of your body.")

The new wineskins church is in reality a charismatic church. When you meddle with the Word of God you can "become drunk on pure ignorance."

"Just as some people abandon themselves to the intoxicating powers of alcohol," Paul says, "you must learn to live under the influence of divine intoxication. No one gets drunk except as he imbibes and comes under the control of some strong drink, and no one becomes spiritual (intoxicated) until he drinks deeply at the fountain of the Spirit. So with mind, will, and passions, surrender your entire being. Just as you have been 'born from above,' now you must offer yourself to God so that you can think 'from above,' speak 'from above,' and live 'from above.' People can tell when someone has had too much wine; they can also tell when someone is captivated by the Spirit." Rubel Shelly Great Themes of the Bible (#10 - Discipleship)

Didn't Jesus say that the Spirit is like water from a fountain?

Your Assignment -- Should you choose to accept it

Your assignment -- to remove you from the fellowship of Scribes and Pharisees -- is to find one passage in which God approves the drinking of wine at any level as an example of the kingdom, the gospel or anything spiritual.

While we and those whom you are leading astray are holding our breaths and waiting for the fires to break out, we submit a few of the host of examples where intoxicating wine is a symbol of God pouring out His wrath and fury upon those who refuse to honor the revealed Word. Ephesians 4 and 5 illustrate God's wrath by words which identify men who "elevate" themselves but are defined as buffons -- standup commedians..

The Cause of the New Wineskins Religion

This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing. Jeremiah 13:10

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory:

but they would not hear. Jeremiah 13:11

The Visible Symptoms of the New Wineskins Religion

Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Every bottle (wineskin) shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee,

The Literal understanding: Do we not certainly know that every bottle (wineskin) shall be filled with wine? Jeremiah 13:12

What Blind Eyes Could not Grasp: Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon Davids throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. Jeremiah 13:13

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the Lord: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them. Jeremiah 13:14

God's message to jeremiah is that a filled wineskin is the symbol of His wrath!

The New Wineskin, ignorance of the Word of God and the musical connection is too overwhelming to overlook. However, it is a huge topic. For now, we will note of the wineskin that it is the Hebrew:

Nebel (h50345) neh'-bel; rom 5034; a skin- bag for liquids (from collapsing when empty); hence a vase (as similar in shape when full); also a lyre (as having a body of like form): - bottle, pitcher, psaltery, vessel, viol

The "instrument" of the witch of Endor was an old wineskin used as an echo chamber because it was empty. She could sell her own reverberating voice as the voice of the "gods." When you try that perhaps God will speak to you also:

Owb (g178) obe; from the same as 1 (appar. through the idea of prattling a father's name); prop. a mumble, i. e. a water-skin (from its hollow sound); hence a necromancer (ventriloquist, as from a jar): - bottle, familiar spirit.

Nabel (h5034) naw-bale'; a prim. root; to wilt; gen. to fall away, fail, faint; fig. to be foolish or (mor.) wicked; causat. to despise, disgrace: - disgrace, dishonour, lightly esteem, fade (away, - ing), fall (down, -ling, off), do foolishly, come to nought, * surely, make vile, wither

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts:

but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands. Isaiah 5:12

Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst. Isaiah 5:13

Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, And the sound of your stringed instruments (viols); The maggot is spread under you, And worms cover you. Isaiah 14:11

Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. Amos 5:23

That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David; Amos 6:5

Just as in the parable of the new wineskins, carnal thinkers will think in physical terms. However, God weeps because they have lost their chance for light and have been afflicted with spiritual blindness:

Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the Lord hath spoken. Jeremiah 13:15

Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. Jeremiah 13:16

But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lords flock is carried away captive. Jeremiah 13:17

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil. Jeremiah 13:23

The theme of turning from God's Word, going spiritually blind so that you cannot grasp the ridicule in the wineskins parable and having God pour out His own cup of fury is the overwhelming message of the new wineskins dogma:

And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that

I may plant the heavens, and
lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion,
Thou art my people. Isaiah 51:16

Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out. Isaiah 51:17

There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up. Isaiah 51:18

In Isaiah 5, the spiritual message is that God established Israel as His vineyard to bring forth grapes.

What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes (poison)? Isaiah 5:4

And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof , and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down: Isaiah 5: 5

And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. Isaiah 5: 6

Isn't it interesting that "melody" and "pruning" and "taking your inheritance" and fluting and polluting and prostituting are all related? Pruned is:

Zamar (h2167) zaw-mar'; a prim. root [perh. ident. with 2168 through the idea of striking with the fingers]; prop. to touch the strings or parts of a musical instrument, i. e. play upon it; to make music, accompanied by the voice; hence to celebrate in song and music: - give praise, sing forth praises, psalms.

For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry. Isaiah 5: 7

They were doing something which Jesus (in prophecy) would never do as the Jews did. Cry is:

Caaq (h6817) tsaw-ak'; a prim. root; to shriek; by implication to proclaim (an assembly): - * at all, call together, cry (out), gather selves together.

The "spiritual" vineyard would dry up almost totally as the people turned to literal wine. Literal enthusiasm and "praise" which was a form of madness was believed to be the power devices of their religious festivals. However, the parable of spiritual blindness is God pouring out His wrath:

Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them Isaiah 5:11

Isaiah 5:13

Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it. Isaiah 5:14

Thy sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as a wild bull in a net: they are full of the fury of the Lord, the rebuke of thy God. Isaiah 51:20

Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine: Isaiah 51:21

Thus saith thy Lord the Lord, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again: Isaiah 51:22

But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over. Isaiah 51:23

For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. Jeremiah 25:15

And they shall drink, and be moved (stagger), and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. Jeremiah 25:16

When David "praised" while playing naked or when he had lost the presence of God, the word praise is the same word as "mad." The "praise craze" literally lusts for the restoration of the First and Second American Awakenings where literally going mad along with literal and "spiritual" wine wants to prove their superiority over the "audience" by causing them to literally lose their minds:

Halal (h1984) haw-lal'; a prim. root; to be clear (orig. of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence to make a show, to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causat. to celebrate; also to stultify: - (make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool (- ish, -ly), glory, give [light], be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, [sing, be worthy of] praise, rage, renowned, shine.

Heylel (h1966) hay-lale'; from 1984 (in the sense of brightness); the morning-star: - lucifer.

Then took I the cup at the Lords hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the Lord had sent me: Jeremiah 25:17

To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; Jeremiah 25:18

Praise and curse are essentially the same. It was very common in ancient paganism that in order to move or manipulate the "gods" you tried to sexually stimulate them with wine, song, dance or instruments. You even cursed them to intimidate them into "meeting your needs." After all, the gods were evil and could be cowardly.

While the lost Jews "praised" god with halal, God caused them to be "cursed" with qalal:

Qalal (h7043) kaw-lal'; a prim. root; to be (caus. make) light, lit. (swift, small, sharp, etc.) or fig. (easy, trifling, vile, etc.): - abate, make bright, bring into contempt, (ac-) curse, despise, (be) ease (- y, -ier), (be a, make, make somewhat, move, seem a, set) light (- en, - er, -ly, - ly afflict, -ly esteem, thing), * slight [-ly], be swift (- er), (be, be more, make, re-) vile, whet.

"Praising" God with self composed songs which often teach error is a way to curse God by telling Him that His words have no value.

Chalal (2490) khaw-lal'; a prim. root [comp. 2470]; prop. to bore, i. e. (by impl.) to wound, to dissolve; fig. to profane (a person, place or thing), to break (one's word), to begin (as if by an "opening wedge"); denom. (from 2485) to play (the flute): - begin (* men began), defile, * break, defile, * eat (as common things), * first, * gather the grape thereof, * take inheritance, pipe, player on instruments, pollute, (cast as) profane (self), prostitute, slay (slain), sorrow, stain, wound.

Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the Lords vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense. Jeremiah 51:6

Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lords hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad. Jeremiah 51:7

Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? Daniel 3:15

Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego? do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? Daniel 3:14

And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts. Jeremiah 51:57

That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! Isaiah 14:4

Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the maggots cover thee. Isaiah 14:11

But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children. Isaiah 49:25

And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob. Isaiah 49:26

Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment. Psalm 60:3

Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah. Psalm 60:4

For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. Psalm 75:8

And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. Revelation 14:8

And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, Revelation 14:9

The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: Revelation 14:10

And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. Revelation 16:19

For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. Revelation 18:3

Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled, fill to her double. Revelation 18:6

And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all. Revelation 18:14

And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; Revelation 18:22

And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. Revelation 18:23

Sorceries are from a word like "pharmacy." Death or destruction was often by literal drug-induced magic. However, in the magical realm of false teachers it means the magical songs or incantations by which the mind is poisoned. The goal is that you believe the witch of Endor as she deals magic by speaking in tongues out of her empty wineskin or as the musical prophetesses sold you a message from the gods out of her musical instrument in which, she says, the gods or the spirits of the dead actually live.

The goal, as always, was to sell you watered wine or magical potents or "praise songs" to make you feel spiritual enough to plunk something in the collection plate. This is God pouring out the wrath of His fury on those who hate the truth.
