Phil Barnes Preacher at Madison Church of Christ and Instruments
Phil Barnes and the elders at Madison Church of Christ have done extensive study have have given themselves to RETAIN ACappella (not a cappella) for both morning services split between the "traditional and "progressives" who do a legalistic end run around instruments by imposing ORGANUM or the style of small-group singers singing in the style of the pipe organ. These were also marked as falsetto or true castrated opra performers imported into the Sistine chapel (caper, goat) where instruments were not permitted for the only official mass.
They, therefore, give themselves to IMPOSE instrumental or machine noises for both services. Elders do not have that authority and therefore usurp the prophetic teachings of Christ and the direct command of Jesus for what HE wanted done in the assembly.
He says that our practices are rooted in tradition or history and they have respectfully considered the unbound Bible. However, the Bible is filled with using mechanical instruments as symbolic of "hard work" or bondage mostly in making war or in creating the shock and awe of religious spectacle to take captive the audience: all instruments and musical terms point directly to soothsaying (the Levites who prophesied with instruments) or sorcerer (the speakers, singers and instrument players in Revelation 17-18.). Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites and the Exekiel 33 version inspired by the Spirit OF Christ named performance preachers, singers and instrument players. "Hypocrite" literally speaks only to those using theatrical arts to pretend that they are speaking for the gods.
They have Wasted too much time things not important. He claims that Satan has weapons trying to keep us from work. New direction, elder recognize, my shepherds took time pray, asked God for direct, studied Bible, Asked God to CAST A VISION for this church. Christ in Amos and the other prophets defines Satan as the SOURCE of using instruments to silence the opposition of the lambs and the voice of God.
Since most of the opposition has been from within by true disciples of Christ and the watching world has been amazed that such a congregation could fall into musical idolatry, one suspects that the disenfranchised members are now defined as Satanic.

6. Therefore, brethren, because we know and have seen that from the beginning it was through woman that the adversary had access unto men, and to the end he will accomplish it by her-for she is the weapon of Satan, and through her he fights against the champions. Through her he makes music at every time, for she became as a harp for him from the first day.
For because of her the curse of the Law was established, and because of her the promise unto death was made. For with pangs she bears children and delivers them to death. Because of her the earth was cursed, that it should bring forth thorns and tares.
1. That whatever this nachash was, he stood at the head of all inferior animals for wisdom and understanding.
The serpent was a Musical Enchanter or enchantress.
Nachash (h5172) naw-khash'; a prim. root; prop. to hiss, i. e. whisper a (magic) spell; gen. to prognosticate: - * certainly, divine, enchanter, (use) * enchantment, learn by experience, * indeed, diligently observe.
5173. nachash, nakh´-ash; from 5172; an incantation or augury:—enchantment.
Nachash "snake, serpent" with nshk "bite" provides a link between two verses in Amos speaking of the impossibility of escape Amos 5:19 and 9:3 - nachash often either carries overtones of the serpent in Eden (Gen 3) or of the mythology of Canaanite cultures (Is 27:1).
As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. Amos 5:19
Nashak (h5391) naw-shak'; a prim. root; to strike with a sting (as a serpent); fig., to oppress with interest on a loan: - bite, lend upon usury.
The verb nachash always means to enchant, fascinate, bewitch; or of one having and using occult knowledge. See Gen. 30:27; 44:5, 15. Lev. 19:26. Deut. 18:10. 1Kings 20:33. 2Kings 17:17; 21:6. 2Chron. 33:6. So also is the noun used in Num. 23:23; 24:1.
Speaking directly to the "mantic" behaviour of music and speaking in tongues in Corinth, it is noted from the Classical writers that:
Thus saraph is used of a fiery serpent, and of an exalted celestial being; nachash being similarly used to designate a serpent and a glorious spirit-being. The Nachash, or serpent, who beguiled Eve (2 Cor. 11:3) is spoken of as "an angel of light" in verse 14. Have we not, in this, a clear intimation that it was not a snake, but a being of glorious aspect, apparently an angel, to whom Eve paid such great deference, acknowledging him as one who seemed to possess superior knowledge, and who was evidently a being of a superior knowledge, and who was evidently a being of a superior (not of an inferior) order?
Moreover, in the description of Satan as "the king of Tyre" it is distinctly implied that the latter being was of a supernatural order when he is called a "cherub" (Ezek. 28:14, 16, read from vv. 11-19). His presence in Eden, the garden of God ('Elohim' v. 13), is also clearly stated, as well as his being "perfect in beauty" (v. 12), his being "perfect in his ways from the day he was created till iniquity was found in him" (v. 15) and as being "lifted up because of his beauty" (v. 17).
The word "beast" also, in Genesis 3:1, chay denotes a living being, and it is as wrong to translate zoa "beasts" in Revelation 4, as it is to translate chay "beast" in Genesis 3. Both mean living creature. Satan is thus spoken of as being "more wise than any other living creature which Jahweh Elohim had made". Even if the word "beast" be retained, it does not say that either a or Satan was a "beast", but only that he was "more wise" than any other living being.
Baal-lashon lord of tongue There was another way in which Nimrod's power was symbolised besides by the "horn." A synonym for Gheber, "The mighty one," was "Abir," while "Aber" also signified a "wing."
Nimrod, as Head and Captain of those men of war, by whom he surrounded himself, and who were the instruments of establishing his power, was "Baal-aberin," "Lord of the mighty ones." But "Baal-abirin" (pronounced nearly in the same way) signified "The winged one," * and therefore in symbol he was represented, not only as a horned bull, but as at once a horned and winged bull--as showing not merely that he was mighty himself,
but that he had mighty ones under his command, who were ever ready to carry his will into effect, and to put down all opposition to his power; and to shadow forth the vastextent of his might, he was represented with great and wide-expanding wings.
* This is according to a peculiar Oriental idiom, of which there are many examples. Thus, Baal-aph, "lord of wrath," signifies "an angry man"; Baal-lashon, "lord of tongue," "an eloquent man"; Baal-hatsim, "lord of arrows," "an archer"; and in like manner, Baal-aberin, "lord of wings," signifies "winged one."
For with the utmost severity and vigilance they enjoin (on their votaries) to abstain, as if they were emasculated, from intercourse with a woman. And they do not worship any other object but Naas, (from thence) being styled Naasseni. But Naas is the serpent from whom, i.e., from the word Naas, (the Naassene) says, are all that under heaven are denominated temples (Naos).
And (he states) that to him alone-that is, Naas-is dedicated every shrine and every initiatory rite, and every mystery; and, in general,
that a religious ceremony could not be discovered under heaven, in which a temple (Naos) has no existence; and in the temple itself is Naas, from whom it has received its denomination of temple (Naos). ZOE and the Wineskins
THE BAAL EPIC DEFINED BY AMOSIn Matthew 23:33 Jesus calls those Pharisees serpents and a generation (offspring, brood, progeny, produce, Gr. gennema) of vipers, and in verse 31 the children (sons, Gr. huios) of them which killed the prophets, and in verse 35 he holds them responsible for all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias. Who killed Abel? Cain of course!
It's true that Carnal Weapons have the same meaning as Lifeless Instruments. It is a fact that there is no other history or tradition but that Satan seduced his angels with performing talents: their mission was to replace READING and DISCUSSING the Word of God. Amos warned.

Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed. Amos 6:7
Marzeach (h4798) mar-zay'-akh; formed like 4797; a cry, i. e. (of grief) a lamentation: - mourning.
For thus saith the Lord, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the Lord, even lovingkindness and mercies. Jer 16:5
Click for a word study of Amos 5 to prove that the FORM of their worship was identical to the musical idolatry at Mount Sinai. It was always a sin beyond redemption because it marked the spiritual nature of evil.
Conrad L'Heureux demonstrated that the marzeah, or symposium (feast, gathering, banquet, assembly) of El that is found in the Rephaim Texts of Ugarit "must be a reflex in the divine world of the symposium celebrated by the members of the earthly marzeah of El...each guild apparently had a divine patron."42 The heavenly marzeah had participants called rp'm, which we also find in the earthly marzeah, e.g., "May Krt be greatly exalted among the rp'm of the earth...the rp'm constitute an aristocracy of which the Canaanite kings were a part."43 Moses, and the prophets following him were proclaimed as "Speakers for Yahweh," showing the people that "they are sent from the divine king, the suzerain of treaties, to reprove and to pronounce judgment upon Israel..."44
Note 42: Conrad L'Heureux, "The Ugaritic and Biblical Rephaim," Harvard Theological Review, 67(1974): 270-271.
Note 43. Conrad L'Heureux, Rephaim, 271. Cf. 272, footnote 25, the authority of El is ordinarily exercised through the younger generation of gods whom we could call the executive deities. It is also possible to understand the term rp'm as "the assembly of the gods." The entire premise of Jacobsen's article "Primitive Democracy," is that the groups and assemblies on earth reflected what the gods had done in heaven.
"The marzeah had an extremely long history extending at least from the 14th century B.C. through the Roman period. In the 14th century B.C., it was prominently associated with the ancient Canaanite city of Ugarit (modern Ras Shamra), on the coast of Syria... The marzeah was a pagan ritual that took the form of a social and religious association... Some scholars regard the funerary marzeah as a feast for--and with--deceased ancestors (or Rephaim, a proper name in the Bible for the inhabitants of Sheol)." (King, Biblical Archaeological Review, Aug, 1988, p. 35, 35)
"These five elements are: (1) reclining or relaxing, (2) eating a meat meal, (3) singing with harp or other musical accompaniment, (4) drinking wine and (5) anointing oneself with oil." (King, p. 37).
"Worship was form more than substance; consequently, conduct in the marketplace was totally unaffected by worship in the holy place. Amos spoke from the conviction that social justice is an integral part of the Mosaic covenant, which regulates relations not only between God and people, but also among people." (King, p. 44).
"In pagan traditions, musical instruments are invented by gods or demi-gods, such as titans. In the Bible, credit is assigned to antediluvian patriarchs, for example, the descendants of Cain in Genesis 4:21. There is no other biblical tradition about the invention of musical instruments." (Freedman, David Noel, Bible Review, Summer 1985, p. 51).. (Proof Here).
CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA REFUTES THE CLAIM AGAINST CHURCH OF CHRIST "TRADITIONALISM"
Chapter XI.-How Great are the Benefits Conferred on Man Through the Advent of Contemplate a little, if agreeable to you, the divine beneficence.
The first man, when in Paradise, sported free, because he was the child of God;
but when he succumbed to pleasure (for the serpent allegorically signifies pleasure crawling on its belly, earthly wickedness nourished for fuel to the flames), was as a child seduced by lusts, and grew old in disobedience; and by disobeying his Father, dishonoured God.
Such was the influence of pleasure. Man, that had been free by reason of simplicity, was found fettered to sins. The Lord then wished to release him from his bonds, and clothing Himself with flesh-O divine mystery!-vanquished the serpent, and enslaved the tyrant death; and, most marvellous of all, man that had been deceived by pleasure, and bound fast by corruption, had his hands unloosed, and was set free.
O mystic wonder! The Lord was laid low, and man rose up; and he that fell from Paradise receives as the reward of obedience something greater [than Paradise]-namely, heaven itself. Wherefore, since the Word Himself has come to us from heaven, we need not, I reckon, go any more in search of human learning to Athens and the rest of Greece, and to Ionia.
Hippolytus: The Worship of The Mother of the Gods--Serpent Worship
They rashly assume in this manner, thatwhatsoever things have been said and done by all men,Therefore, he says, when, on the people assembling in the theatres,

Whence likewise they assert, that those exhibiting themselves in theatres,

"Whether (thou art) the race of Saturn (Satans) or happy Jupiter, or mighty Rhea (ZOE), Hail, Attis, gloomy mutilation of Rhea. Assyrians style thee thrice-longed-for Adonis, and the whole of Egypt (calls thee) Osiris, celestial horn of the moon; [The bull, Apis, at Sinai]Greeks denominate (thee) Wisdom (Sophia); Samothracians, venerable Adam; Haemonians, Corybas; and them Phrygians (name thee) at one time Papa, at another time Corpse, or God, or Fruitless, or Aipolos, or green Ear of Corn that has been reaped, or whom the very fertile Amygdalus produced-a man, a musician."
See the fatal fall from grace because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.
"I will hymn Attis, son of Rhea, not with the buzzing sounds of trumpets, or of Idaean pipers, which accord with (the voices of) the Curetes; On account of these and such like reasons, but I will mingle (my song) with Apollo's music of harps, evoe, evan, ' inasmuch as thou art Pan, as thou art Bacchus, as thou art shepherd of brilliant stars."

Now the production of the instructor came about as follows. When Sophia let fall a droplet of light, it flowed onto the water, and immediately a human being appeared, being androgynous.
That droplet she molded first as a female body. Afterwards, using the body she molded it in the likeness of the mother, which had appeared. And he finished it in twelve months.
An androgynous human being was produced, whom the Greeks call Hermaphrodites; and whose mother the Hebrews call
Eve of Life (Eve-Zoe), namely, the female instructor of life.
Her offspring is the creature that is lord.
Afterwards, the authorities called it "Beast", so that it might lead astray their modelled creatures.
The interpretation of "the beast" is "the instructor". For it was found to be the wisest of all beings.

Phil Barnes boasts of an unstoppable force. He quotes 1 John 5 to prove that we KNOW that we are saved. Denying that "a spirit" is guiding them beyond the sacred pages we quote:
This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood.
........... And it is the Spirit that beareth witness,
........... because the Spirit is truth. 1 John 5:6Throughout the Bible, the Word of God is truth or the Spirit OF truth:

The Priests and Levites abandoned to worship the starry host (Acts 7) practiced sabazianism or Bacchus-Dionysus worship. This is the worship of Apollo, Abaddon or Apollyon in Revelation where the musicians are called sorcerers.
In Isaiah 50 Christ defines the musical meaning of being smitten and plucked by the Civil-Military-Clergy complex who were guilty of murdering all of the prophets sent by Christ
[10.3.15] They invented names appropriate to the flute, and to the noises made by castanets, cymbals, and drums, and to their acclamations and shouts of "ev-ah," and stampings of the feet; and they also invented some of the names by which to designate the [homosexual, emasculated] ministers, choral dancers, and attendants upon the sacred rites, I mean "Cabeiri" and "Corybantes" and "Pans" and "Satyri" and "Tityri,"
and they called the god "Bacchus," and Rhea [Eve] "Cybele" or "Cybebe" or "Dindymene" according to the places where she was worshipped. Sabazius also belongs to the Phrygian group and in a way is the child of the Mother,, since he too transmitted the rites of Dionysus.
The Jew's Monarchy worship was Sabazianism: the pattern for those thinking they have authority to impose instruments.

[7] For the Parthians do not incite themselves to battle with horns or trumpets, but they have hollow drums of distended hide, covered with bronze bells, and on these they beat all at once in many quarters, and the instruments give forth a low and dismal tone, a blend of wild beast's roar and harsh thunder peal.
They had rightly judged that, of all the senses,
hearing is the one most apt to confound the soul,
soonest rouses its emotions,
and most effectively unseats the judgment.

In Isaiah 58 Christ defines His future REST and outlaws seeking your own pleasure or speaking your own words: that's because you have nothing of value to add. Paul commanded this for the gathering as using one mind and one mouth to speak that which is written for our learning or Scripture. A disciple goes to the School of Christ Who is STILL in charge.
If you think that the Spirit OF Christ or Jesus who now IS The Holy Spirit (1 John 2) is casting a new vision opposed to that which was the faith of the founders, then you are in lots of trouble.
Phil Barnes says that Jesus didn't abondon the apostles but SENT BACK the holy spirit. "I have given you complete control." But, Jesus said:
Instead of the absolute demand that all evangelists or preachers GO into all of the World, Phil says that the members just goes, gives money, attends, bring bibles, identifues someone and PRAY for Six Weeks. That's not what Jesus said: the POWER to salvation is in the gospel of the kingdom: Jesus is king and high priests and he sends YOU out as His heralds (kerusso or presbyter) and if you tamper with His message to the world in any way YOU will pay a penalty.Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth
Phil Barnes wants to get paid for violating the direct, imperative to Go if one wants to preach the Gospel. History and Scripture is violently opposed. The local congregation is fed by Pastor-Teachers with no sermonizer or musicians on the approve list in Ephesians 4.
The Testimony of history smokes out those who want to produce a venue for musical performance and blaspheme it by calling is spiritual worship.
"Give money to make poor pious youths learned clergy, or vain pretenders to erudition; and they pray that they may preach to you; yes, and pay them too.Was there ever such a craft as priestcraft? No, it is the craftiest of all crafts. It is so crafty that it obtains by its craft the means to make craftsmen, and then it makes the deluded support them!" (Campbell, Alexander, Christian Baptist, Dec. 1, 1823, Vol. 1, p. 91).
"Those who lord it over the people will soon begin to destroy Them. The word Balaam means 'the destroyer of the people.' If we turn back to the history of this strange figure as recorded in the book of Numbers we find that which clarifies three passages in the New Testament where 'the error of Balaam' (Jude 11), 'the way of Balaam' (II Pet. 2:15) and 'the doctrine of Balaam' are discussed." (Barnhouse, D.G., Revelation, Zondervan, p. 54
"It is possible that some spiritual immaturity today may arise from other causes. It may be produced by a failure to provide an adequate program of Bible instruction for the whole church. It may be the result of indifference and lack of a real desire to know the rich things of the Word. Too often people have assumed that all the Bible should be as simple as kindergarten lessons. It that were true, it is doubtful if there would ever be such a thing as a full grown Christian. The usual Sunday morning scolding which the church receives for not doing this will only make the situation worse. (Applebury, p. 51)
III. From Book II. Asterius Urbanus writing of Montanus c. 172-173 who presumed that the Scriptures needed further expounding or private interpretation. He used a charismatic style to fool the fools and extract pay for preaching:
Wherefore, since they stigmatized us as slayers of the prophets (Num 16:41) because we did not receive their loquacious ["unbridled of tongue," and thus also mendacious.] prophets,-for they say that these are they whom the Lord promised to send to the people,-let them answer us in the name of God, and
tell us, O friends, whether there is any one among those who began to speak from Montanus and the women onward that was persecuted by the Jews or put to death by the wicked?
There is not one. Not even one of them is there who was seized and crucified for the name [Compare Tertullian, vol. iii. cap. 28, p. 624.] of Christ. No; certainly not. Neither assuredly was there one of these women who was ever scourged in the synagogues of the Jews, or stoned. No; never anywhere.
It is indeed by another kind of death that Montanus and Maximillia are said to have met their end. For the report is, that by the instigation of that maddening spirit both of them hung themselves; not together indeed, but at the particular time of the death of each 22 as the common story goes.
And thus they died, and finished their life like the traitor Judas. Thus, also, the general report gives it that Theodotus-that astonishing person who was, so to speak, the first procurator Note 23 of their so-called prophecy,
Note 23 oi\on e0pi/tropon. Rufinus renders it, "veluti primogenitum prophetiae ipsorum." Migne takes it as meaning steward, manager of a common fund established among the Montanists for the support of their prophets. Eusebius (v. 18) quotes Apollonius as saying of Montanus,
that he established exactors of money, and provided salaries for those who preached his doctrine.
and who, as if he were sometime taken up and received into the heavens, fell into spurious ecstasies, and gave himself wholly over to the spirit of delusion-was at last tossed by him into the air, and met his end miserably. People say then that this took place in the way we have stated. But as we did not see them ourselves, we do not presume to think that we know any of these things with certainty. And it may therefore have been in this way perhaps, and perhaps in some other way, that Montanus and Theodotus and the woman mentioned above perished.
See John Calvin on the need for a Restoration Movement excluding professional preachers.
For what duties do they perform in return? In the same way as anciently, under the laws, those who served at the altar lived by the altar,
"even so hath the Lord ordained, that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel" (1 Cor. 9:14).
These are Paul's words. Let them, then, show us that they are ministers of the gospel, and I will have no difficulty in conceding their right to stipend.
The ox must not be muzzled that treadeth out the corn [1 Cor. 9:9]. But is it not altogether at variance with reason that the ploughing oxen should starve, and the lazy asses be fed?
They will say, however, that they serve at the altar. I answer, that the priests under the law deserved maintenance, by ministering at an altar;
but that, as Paul declares, the case under the New Testament is different. And what are those altar services, for which they allege that maintenance is due to them?
Forsooth, that they may perform their masses and chant in churches, for example, partly labor to no purpose, and partly perpetrate sacrilege, thereby provoking the anger of God. See for what it is that they are alimented at the public expense!

It is the opposite of rhetoric, singing, playing or acting which is the hypocritic practices of the Scribes and Pharisees according to Jesus. The Ekklesia or synagogue are what Jesus exampled with NO musical performance: the laded burden OUTLAWS such "hard work" in a spiritual sense. Paul's "coming together, gather or assembly" is a form of the synagogue where vocal or instrumental rejoicing including high sounding rhetoric was outlawed from the wilderness onward.

Jesus did not COMMAND any kind of musical performance: not even conceivable for teachers of disciples of Christ. On the contrary, the enemies of Christ musically MOCKED Him to the cross as they did Paul and as they will anyone who obeys who follows the pattern of speaking only what the Father taught Him to say.
Because God made certain that nothing revealed in the bible is metrical--and cannot be sung tunefully--so making a musical spectacle to replace the School of Christ in the Word violates all recorded history and scholarship. The use of instruments to enforce the Laws (nomos) of Abaddon or Apollyon is the only recorded definition of "legalism."
Showing partiality, says James, brings the total Law of Moses down on your head. That is why the direct command was for the elders to preach the Word by READING the Word: that was the ocmmand of Christ for all of the assemblies of the common people in small groups as small as ten taught by one man not in it for "seeing godliness as a means of financial gain."
THE FOLLY OF MAKING JESUS AND THE APOSTLES INTO SPECTACLES
Tom Haddon's original purpose driven purpose was to turn YOUR School of the Word into a Theater for Holy Entertainment. He was recorded to say that the people are led to think they are on one train but we are goint to switch their cars and take them were we want to take them.

X.Smp.2.2 Xenophon, Symposium II. When the tables had been removed and the guests had poured a libation and sung a hymn, there entered a man from Syracuse, to give them an evening's merriment. He had with him a fine flute-girl, a dancing-girl--one of those skilled in acrobatic tricks,--and a very handsome boy, who was expert at playing the cither and at dancing; the Syracusan made money by exhibiting their performances as a spectacle. [2] They now played for the assemblage, the flute-girl on the flute, the boy on the cither; and it was agreed that both furnished capital amusement. Thereupon Socrates remarked: “On my word, Callias, you are giving us a perfect dinner; for not only have you set before us a feast that is above criticism, but you are also offering us very delightful sights and sounds.” [3] “Suppose we go further,” said Callias, “and have some one bring us some perfume, so that we may dine in the midst of pleasant odours, also.” “No, indeed!” replied Socrates

[27] Nevertheless, I urge those who are inclined towards these disciplines to work hard and apply themselves to all of them, saying that even if this learning can accomplish no other good, at any rate it keeps the young out of many other things which are harmful.
