Ken Young and Hallal at Jubilee 98

Kenneth Sublett

Ken Young and the professional group, Hallal, will perform the worship in song task for Jubilee 98. At Pepperdine University this was billed as A Contemporary Worship Experience.

This is a part of the commercial and Willow Creek Association of which Woodmont Hills under Rubel Shelly are members and apparently promoters. The Worship Facilitation Minister at Woodmont Hills is expected to "help bring the worshipers into the presence of God." Click for more.

The Bible, pagan history and modern science proves that when the group moves away from the word music is the tool of choice. This is done as a divisive effort by the use of sound or melody to alter the conscious mind and open up the effeminate part of our nature. Music works because it produces a morphine-like drug high which the singers and music producers sell as a worship experience performed for the audience. Click if you really care.

This is part of the turf battle with the goal of separating out a new Family of God distinct from and divided from the churches of Christ. While we do not defend much preacher-dominated theology it would appear that flipping into another denomination with doctrinal compromise just to "judge them ok" is going a bit too far to protect egos.

Reciting the Hallel as Prophetic of the Striken Shepherd and Scattering of Sheep

Many "keeping of days, times and seasons" such as Passover and Jubilee are the restoration of legalistic rituals prefiguring the reality of Jesus Christ. This may be crucifying Him all over again because the kingdom has not yet come with exhilarating reality.

When Jesus said: "My God why hast thou forsaken me" He was pointing the reader to Psalm 22 with begins in despair but ends in victory. All of the prophetic Hallel has been fulfilled and we should not try to move the church back beyond the church with musical worship replacing the read Word.

When Jesus read the hallel He was sending us a message which you cannot hear at Jubilee 98 while the self-boast and talent display and "standing over the flock" is taking place.

Jesus knew what was going to happen and as with the ancient Passover, the preparation must begin about a week before the actual animal sacrifice--

The Hallel: And when they had sung (no instrument, no tune) an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. Mk 14:26

And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. Mk l14:27

Zechariah had predicted that Jehovah would say,

"Strike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered," {Zech 13:7b RSV}.

"Now when Jesus quoted this he changed it from the imperative mood, "Strike the Shepherd," to the indicative,

"I will strike the Shepherd." The words come from the lips of God himself. The full verse says,

"Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who stands next to me," says the LORD of hosts. "Strike the shepherd, that the sheep may be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones. Zec 13:7RSV

The hallel concluded with:

Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks (hold out the hands, bemoan) to the LORD. Ps 118:19

The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner. Ps 118:22

Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord (Jehovah-Saves): we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord. Psa 118:26

God is the Lord, which hath shewed us light: bind (fasten to a yoke) the sacrifice with cords (branches), even unto the horns of the altar. (place to slaughter) Psa 118:27KJV

The Lord is God, and He has given us light; Bind the festival sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar. Psa 118:27NAS

To be a seeker and joyfully submit to the women elders one must abandon all other versions and use the NIV which, they believe, is the feminist truth. It is striking, therefore, that it translates this verse:

The LORD is God, and he has made his light shine upon us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar. Ps 118:27NIV

However, the festal sacrifice is not a musical procession as the Jewish clergy believed. Rather, it is:

Chag (h2282) khag; or 2283 khawg; from 2287; a festival, or a victim thereof: - (solemn) feast (day), sacrifice, solemnity.

The giving thanks was not the effeminate "lifting holy hands" by waving them in the air like antennas. Rather, this hallel Psalm which Jesus recommended for us reads:

O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Ps 118:29

Yadah (h3034) yaw-daw'; to use i. e. hold out the hand... to revere or worship (with extended hands); intens. to bemoan (by wringing the hands): make confession), praise

"The result of that smiting would be the scattering of the sheep. Now in Matthew's account of this, Jesus adds "this night you will all fall away because of me this night; for it is written, 'I will strike the Shepherd,'" {cf, Matt 26:31}. Therefore it is very clear that Zechariah was predicting the Garden of Gethsemane. Gethsemane's struggle was the smiting of the Shepherd, and the result would be the scattering of the sheep. You can see how true that is if you look forward a bit to Verse 50, where it says of the disciples, "And they all forsook him, and fled," {Mark 14:50 RSV}. This is the scattering of the sheep. Jesus did understand what was to happen that night in the Garden of Gethsemane. Click Here for a full discussion

The Jewish clergy were children making musical games out of the songs. They sang and piped trying to triumph over Jesus. At the same time they were plotting a human sacrifice prophesied by the hallel song Jesus read.

As they pretended to listen to Him they were plotting a way to bind Him to the horns of the altar as a human sacrifice so that the whole nation did not have to suffer under Rome.

The hallel or hallal was a prophecy and a prelude to the greatest death in history. Sure enough, as the musical children piped and sang they were smiting their only Shepherd. Rather than building a grand, new nation under their Messiah (there are many) the sheep were scattered and the singers and chanters were lost a million strong.

The Biblical proof-text for Hallal at Jubilee 98 is: "Come Into His Presence With Singing!" Like all musical proof texts and the word Hallal itself, the Scripture is a grab bag to get a marketable name and authority. It doesn't matter because most people will not know the difference or care as long as the experience is powerful enough.

You probably don't care, but let us look at the text:

(A Psalm of praise.)

MAKE a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands (the earth). Ps 100:1

Serve (serve in bondage) the Lord with gladness: come before his presence (his face) with singing. Psa 100:2KJV

Obey him gladly; come before him, singing with joy. Ps 100:2LIV

Serve is the Old Covenant form of worship:

Abad (h5647) aw-bad'; a prim. root; to work (in any sense); by impl. to serve, till, (caus.) enslave, etc.: - * be, keep in bondage, be bondmen, bond-service, compel... worshipper.

This is the triumphant rejoicing which the persons under law needed to arouse themselves to serve God even when He always seemed asleep or away. It was forbidden when the Israelite assembly comes together. It was prophesied that it would be tried in order to triumph over Jesus but that it would not work.

Gladness is

Simchah (h8057) sim-khaw'; from 8056 (making merry); blithesomeness or glee, (religious or festival): - exceeding gladness, joyfulness), mirth, pleasure, rejoiceing.

Hallal will bring you Face to Face with God at Jubilee 98

The Psalmist came before Jehovah's face as he served Him in great bondage or work or even legalistic worship. If this is used in a literal sense by Hallal then they claim, as Rubel Shelly wishes, to bring the worshipers into the presence of God.

Only Moses literally spoke to God face to face:

And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, De.34:10

Singing is

Renanah (h7445) ren-aw-naw'; from 7442; a shout (for joy): - joyful (voice), singing, triumphing.

That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? Jb.20:5

Ranan (h7442) raw-nan'; a prim. root; prop. to creak (or emit a stridulous sound), i. e. to shout (usually for joy): - aloud for joy, cry out, be joyful, (greatly, make to) rejoice, (cause to) shout (for joy), (cause to) sing (aloud, for joy, out), triumph. (shrill or grating)

No. This does not imply that the triumphing of the spiritual is long. It simply means that triumphing and hypocrisy are bed fellows.

No four part harmony. No melody. All discord. I have to tell you that, to me, a lot of "Praise Music" when analyzed is made up of booms and clangs and a lot of strident sounds. When seen as "an act of worship" it frazzles the nerves. As part of the crowd you may call it "excitement" until you climb down off the high. Isn't the advertized purpose to triumph over and bring you into God's presence and increase the numbers?

The rest of the Psalm is clearly symbolic:

Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Ps 100:3

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Ps 100:4

Triumphing was outlawed when the congregation of Israel came together:

But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. Nu 10:7

Ruwah (h7321) roo-ah'; a prim. root; to mar (espec. by breaking); fig. to split the ears (with sound), i. e. shout (for alarm or joy): - blow an alarm, cry (alarm, aloud, out), destroy, make a joyful noise, smart, shout (for joy), sound an alarm, triumph.

Psalms were often attempts to "break through" to get God to awaken and come into their presence to crush the life out of their own personal enemies. For instance, the clergy "children" played their little pipes trying to triumph over Jesus by forcing Him into the gender-bending choral dance of the Dionysus mad women.

However, using this same word for triumph, the Psalmist said that Judas would not triumph over Jesus. Did you know that the Judas bag was "for carrying the mouthpieces of wind instruments?"

And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity (of idolatry): his heart gathereth (called an assembly) iniquity (panting and exerting self in vain) to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it. Ps 41:6

All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. Ps 41:7

Zechariah spoke of the musical prophesiers (often women) trying to lead "the worshiper into the presence of the God" who always seemed lost in paganism:

For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd. Zec.10:2

Whisper is:

Lachash (h3907) law-khash'; a prim. root; to whisper; by impl. to mumble a spell (as a magician): - charmer, whisper together. 3908 means singing incantations or songs.

This is related to the serpent which whispered to Eve and to the brass of musical instruments.

Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better. Ec.10:11

The babbler is much like the singers in tongues in Corinth or the tongues of fire as a sign to the Apostles that Israel had ended as a separate nation:

Lashown (h3956) law-shone'; from 3960 (to slander ones neighbor); the tongue (of man or anmals), used lit. (as the instrument of licking, eating, of speech), and fig. (speech, an ingot, a fork of flame, a cove or water): - babbler, bay, / evil speaker, language, talker, tongue, wedge

In the New Testament, a babbler is a:

Spermologos (g4691) sper-mol-og'-os; from 4690 and 3004; a seed-picker (as the crow), i.e. (fig.) a sponger, loafer (spec. a gossip or trifler in talk): - babbler.

Sperma (g4690) sper'-mah; from 4687; something sown, i.e. seed (including the male "sperm"); by impl. offspring; spec. a remnant (fig. as if kept over for planting): - issue, seed.

Lego (g3004) leg'-o; a prim. verb; prop. to "lay" forth, i.e. (fig.) relate (in words [usually of systematic or set discourse...

This is much like speaking in tongues which is:

Glossa (g1100) gloce-sah'; of uncert. affin.; the tongue; by impl. a language (spec. one naturally unacquired): - tongue.

The singers and speakers in Corinth were trying to triumph over the others by proving that they were superior. Paul compared this to the noise and clang of the babblers or soothsayers (1Co 13:1) and the military blowers of wind instruments sending signals of triumph over the enemy.

As the Corinthians tried to triumph over God and man, Judas carried his little bag which was:

Glossokomon (g1101) gloce-sok'-om-on; from 1100 and the base of 2889; prop. a case (to keep mouthpieces of wind-instruments in), i.e. (by extens.) a casket or (spec.) purse: - bag.

This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. Jn.12:6

In Hebrew the bag and musical instruments are grouped along with weapons of warfare:

Keliy (h3627) kel-ee'... any apparatus (as an implement, utensil, dress, vessel or weapon): - armour ([-bearee]), artillery, bag, carriage, / furnish, furniture, instrument, psaltery...

And Paul said that you cannot use this form of instrument as a weapon to do God's will:

And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? 1Co.14:7

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; 2Co 10:4

This lifeless instrument is almost identical to the weapon-instruments in Hebrew used to triumph over others:

Hoplon (g3696) hop'-lon; prob. (to be busy about); an implement or utensil or tool (lit. or fig., espec. offensive for war): - armour, instrument, weapon

"the watchmen, who patrolled the streets for the repression of common crime, were charged with the additional duty of exorcizing the dreaded powers of the air and of darkness, which went about like roaring lions seeking what they might devour.

To accomplish this object the night watchman wielded spiritual weapons of two different sorts but of equal power; he range a bell, and he chanted a blessing." (Frazer, James George, Folk-Lore in the Old Testament, Macmillian, p. 423, 1923)

The Psalmist of the Jubilee proof text continues:

Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. Ps 41:9

By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. Psa 41:11

The bread Jesus rubbed off as sop in Hebrew means to burn up and from:

Lacham (3898) law-kham'; a prim. root; to feed on; fig. to consume; by impl. to battle as destruction: - devour, eat, ever, fight (- ing), overcome, prevail (TRIUMPH)

Judas was somehow associated with his wind instruments which were used to try to triumph over Jesus.

In response, Jesus rubbed a crumb from his own bread, dipped it into the bitter herbs and hand fed it to Judas. The sop was:

Psomion (g5596) pso-mee'-on; dim. from a der. of the base of 5597; a crumb or morsel (as if rubbed off), i.e. a mouthful: - sop.

This speaks of the rubbing to bits or powder:

Psocho (g5597) pso'-kho; prol. from the same base as 5567; to triturate, i.e. (by anal.) to rub out (kernels from husks with the fingers or hand): - rub

Which is exactly the meaning of extermal melody in both Greek and Hebrew:

Psallo (g5567) psal'-lo.. (to rub or touch the surface; comp. 5597); to twitch or twang, i.e. to play on a stringed instrument (celebrate the divine worship with music and accompanying odes): - make melody, sing (psalms)

God said:

Take thou away from me the noise (noisy assembly) of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. Am.5:23

Melody is:

Zimrah (h2172) zim-raw'; rrom 2167; a musical piece or song to be accompanied by an instrument: - melody, psalm.

This, in turn is related to pruning the vine to take the choice fruit best expressed by:

Zimrah (g2173) zim-raw'; from 2167; pruned i. e. choice fruit:

In Hebrew a word which is used both of this wounding, taking one's inheritance by pruning their vine and playing the flute means to pollute or triumph over another:

CHalal (h2490) khaw-lal'; to wound, to dissolve; fig. to profane (a person, place or thing), to break (one's word), to begin (as if by an "opening wedge"); denom. (from 2485) to play (the flute): eat (as common things), gather the grape thereof, take inheritance, pipe, player on instruments, pollute

Halal (h1984) haw-lal'; a prim. root; to be clear (orig. of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence to make a show, to boast; and thus to be clamorously foolish; to rave; causat. to celebrate; also to stultify: make boast (self), glory, give [light], be (make, feign self mad (against), give in marriage, [sing, be worthy of] praise, rage, renowned, shine.

Heylel (h1966) hay-lale'; from 1984 (in the sense of brightness); the morning-star: - lucifer.

Of Lucifer: Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Eze.28:13

The Jewish clergy whom Jesus called children whined because they could not triumph over Him with their little pipes:

And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. Mt.11:17

The dance which they tried to induce in Jesus with musical instruments was the:

Orcheomai (g3738) or-kheh'-om-ahee; (a row or ring); to dance (from the ranklike or regular motion): - dance

Click Here to see that this was to force Jesus into the singing and dancing with the feminine or effeminate chorus of Dionysus.

We make the triumphal procession in Christ only as we spread the fragrance of the knowledge of Him and not as we sing and chant.

When they wanted Jesus to participate it would have been:

Thriambeuo (g2358)three-am-byoo'-o; from a prol. comp. of the base of 2360 and a der. of 680 (mean. a noisy iambus, sung in honor of Bacchus); to make an acclamatory procession, i.e. (fig.) to conquer or (by Hebr.) to give victory: - cause to triumph over. (Bacchus is Dionysus)

"dionysus is a strange god. Although he is best known as the god of wine, he is also a vegetation deity, a god of the liquid element, a death god, a god who comes into and changes, often irrevocably, the normal community life, and lastly the god of the theatre.

"The duality of dionysus is related to another of his attributes, which is that of loss of identity. The actors in the plays performed for dionysus were masked; the mask symbolized the submersion of their identity into that of another. Wine also has the effect of submerging the normal personality of the person who drinks it. dionysus made a habit of stealing the identities of his worshippers; the bacchants dancing on the mountainside have no separate personalities; they are mad, crazed, they have been taken over by the god; and they are all alike. Agave is certainly not herself when she tears her son to pieces, acting in unison with her sisters. In this respect they are behaving in the same way crowds often do, in which the individual is subliminated by the mob. dionysus induces mass hysteria, he is the god of mob fury. This loss of individuality is demonstrated in the theatre not only by the masks which the actors wear, but also by the chorus. They dance and sing in unison, all chanting the same words. The members of the chorus have no identity, each is merely an insignificant part of the whole, with no separate will. All individuality willpower must be given up to dionysus, when the god choses to take it. From

It is rank legalism to pretend and sell merchandise with the label that the music can cause you to triumph and be led into the presence of God Who isn't lost. Therefore, remember that even Israel was forbidden to engage in what is sold as Christian but is pagan legalism:

Ruwah (h7321) roo-ah'; a prim. root; to mar (espec. by breaking); fig. to split the ears (with sound), i. e. shout (for alarm or joy): - blow an alarm, cry (alarm, aloud, out), destroy, make a joyful noise, smart, shout (for joy), sound an alarm, triumph.

The word halal is used in the following ways. None recommend themselves to believers:

1. The Biblical term is halal which is noisy music as self boast to triumph over others.

2. The Muslims use Hallal as lawful meat equivalent to Kosher among Jews:

"Here in USA there seems to be confusion regarding meat; between the technical terms Hallal , i.e. what is regarded as lawful by shariat and the term Zabiha which means the correct method of slauthering an animal for consumption by Muslims. Is it not necessary according to Shariah that the meat we eat fullfil both the criteria? Does the meat available in supermarkets here is Zabiha ? Can some one quote the rules for Zabiha from a hiqh text?

3. The Hebrew Hallel was one male reading or chanting certain Psalms as part of the legal "observance of days, times and seasons" --

Hallel, in "Jewish ritual, selection from the Psalms, chanted as part of the liturgy during certain festivals. The more frequently used selection includes Psalms 113-118 and is known as the Egyptian Hallel, presumably because Psalm 114 begins, "When Israel went out of Egypt" It is sung in synagogues on the first two days of Passover, on Shabuoth, on Sukkot, on each morning of the eight days of Hanukkah, and at the close of the Seder."

In Hebrew literature Hallel the follow notes are listed:

The Hallel through the generations, on specific occasions: Pesachim 117a

Hallel requires a full stomach and a satisfied spirit: Taanis 25b-26a

The reading is beloved to the people, and so they listen closely: Megillah 21b

The Hallel as an Institution of the Prophets, to use to pray for salvation from danger: Pesachim 117a [2x]

Which occurrences mandate singing praise to Gd: Megillah 14a

Reciting Hallel for a miracle which occurred outside of Israel: Megillah 14a

Saying the Hallel daily is blasphemous: Shabbos 118b

Role of the Reader in the "Hallel" prayer of praise

Having a minor lead: Megillah 24a

Having a person wearing torn, ragged clothing lead: Megillah 24a

Having a person from Haifa or Bet She'an lead: Megillah 24b

Requiring a Quorum in order to have a reader: Megillah 23b

Ability of the Reader to read the prayers for others who aren't expert: Rosh HaShanah 33b, 34b-35a

Whether it is halal (boasting praise) or hallal (lawful, kosher meat) or hallel restricted to one male reading Psalms, it is a missappropriation of God's private property to label a professional music group with either title and sell it as having somewhat magical, if commercial, power.
