The Kabbalah

Covenant Law and Temple: the Kabbalah. The Tablets were broken because Israel was not worthy to profit by them, and that which was shattered is said to have been not only the written but the inward and oral Law.

If we do not grasp that Israel lost the oral covenant at Mount Sinai; and was saddled with The Book of the Law whose rules could not be kept then it is impossible to understand the Israelite history. And if we do not grasp that the king, the kingdom, the temple and sacrificial worship was by God's permissive will when the elders repudiated God and demanded: "Set a king over us."

This makes it radically naive to pick bits and pieces of the sacrificial ceremonies for the Temple-State and burden those freed by Christ with rituals devoted solely to the flesh in a Like the Nations Kingdom.

After the final destruction of their nation, Jewish scholar began to review the Bible and grasped that the Law, as Paul says, "Was added because of transgression" and that the Monarchy and Temple were not spiritual in nature.

"it would seem that Moses ascended Mount Sinai clothed in the vesture of Shekinah, being that cloud which he entered and in virtue of which it was possible for him to go up.

The intention of the Law was to place man under the domination of the Tree of Life, which means that there would have been no mysteries, the Law in this aspect being the Spouse of God, and therefore it is the Shekinah herself, or the Mystery of Faith expounded. It is that Mystery which is beheld in contemplating the face of Shekinah, in the state which is eye to eye. (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 306, Citadel Press)

"If this intention had been fulfilled, there would have been no distinction of an Oral and Written Law, and

the question is therefore as to what intervened
so that another order followed,
contrary to the design of providence
." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 306, Citadel Press)

"Now, it is affirmed by the Zohar that a change took place in Israel at the foot of Mount Sinai,

and this is insisted upon so frequently in terms which never vary as to the alleged fact that one cannot help feeling some principle is involved, some unstated matter of Secret Doctrine. (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 306, Citadel Press)

"It is testified that Israel was joined anew to the Tree of Life, so that it beheld the heavenly splendours and realized their lights; it experienced the ineffable joy which fills the hearts of those who desire to know and understand the Supreme Mysteries. (See the Naga or Serpent Worship)

"The nation was reclothed by the Holy One with that cuirass formed from the letters of His Sacred Name (authority) which was the protection of Adam and Eve before their fall.

The serpent could cleave no longer to Israel, and it is affirmed to have disappeared from the world.
We must understand all this as a reflection rather of the
Divine Intention in its union with the covenant made by the people on their part:

'All that the Lord hath spoken we will do' (Ex. xix. 8).

They were washed also and sanctified... The ZOHAR regarded as commentary... such exaltations of Israel either on the basis of the text or that which followed." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 306-7, Citadel Press)

The Jewish scholars, however, understood that the original covenant was never realized in fact but it was God's intention that it be so.

The Fall

The fact that God wrote on two stones which He prepared, and that He wrote on front and back is believed to show the connection between the Oral and written law.

"we must remember that in the absence of Moses, and in the uncertainty as to what had become of him, but--ex hypothesi--
in the absence otherwise of all temptation, Israel adored the golden calf;
the
old evil order was thus reinstated, and I conclude that the serpent returned.
........... It is to be understood further that the riot of the feast which followed the idol-worship signifies a sexual orgy.

"When therefore Moses came down from the mountain carrying the Tables of the Law
he
broke them in the presence of the people, which,
according to Scripture was because
'his anger waxed hot." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 307-308, Citadel Press)

Only after the national failure of Israel the teachers recognized the difference between the Covenant and the Law:

"The thesis is that the original Tables constituted the liberation of all, meaning the separation from that serpent who is called 'the end of all flesh.' They were formed originally from a single block of sapphire, but God breathed upon them and the precious stone was divided into two parts... They were written before and behind and were symbolized by the loaves of proposition. It is noted in another place that the writing thereon was like black fire on white fire, which according to yet another it would appear that the stones were transparent: the writing on front, or on the obverse side, was read from in front. It is an allusion to the inter-connection of the written and oral Law." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 307-308, Citadel Press)

The first tablets were called "tables of stone" (Exod. 24:12, 31:18) but the second are called "tables of stones" (v. 1, 4).

"This difference...may be explained very simply from the fact,

that the tables prepared by Moses were hewn from two stones, and not both from the same block...
There is apparently far more importance in the following distinction,
that the
second tables were delivered by Moses and only written upon by God,
whereas in the case of the former both the
writing and the materials came from God...

As Moses had restored the covenant through his energetic intercession,
he should also provide the materials for the renewal of the covenant record,
and bring them to God, for Him to complete and confirm the record
by writing the covenant words upon the tables" (Keil and Delitzsch, p. 239).

When Moses saw the idolatry he broke the tablets into pieces so that the words of Grace "flew away" and could not be read again--

"It is recorded by Scripture that they were cast from the hands of Moses and were broken,
and here it is explained by the Zohar that this was
because the letters took flight--
a device designed to point out that no writing remained upon them
which could possibly be seen by Israel in contemplating the
fragments.

The Tablets were broken because Israel was not worthy to profit by them, and that which was shattered is said to have been

not only the written but the inward and oral Law.
The meaning is that the higher order of
liberation and mercy which included these,
the revelation of the secret union, was taken henceforth into concealment.

The malediction brought upon the world by the trespass, and removed for a moment as the people passed under the shadow of Mount Sinai, descended again upon them" (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 308, Citadel Press)

The later Jews faced the fact that the Law and the Temple must have had some message which they did not understand. The mystical Jews came very close to the truth in some areas so that--

"It is recognized by the ZOHAR that the second Tables embodied another record,
........... which was the Law of opportunism,
........... the Law of mine and thine--of prohibition and denial, being that of bondage.

"It was sacred after its own manner because it was a shadow of the first intention, but it reflects at a very far distance.
I do not know whether it is affirmed literally that it is the work of the Tree of Knowledge,
but this must be held to follow from numerous impressive intimations and the Secret Doctrine,

with all the Oral Law by which that Doctrine is encompassed, is the Tree of Life." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 308-9, Citadel Press)

The Tree of Life or The Book of the Covenant called for reading and obeying the seventy enabling regulations so that an intimate relationship with God would be possible.

The Tree of Knowledge or The Book of the Law, on the other hand, would encite Israel to look for charismatic ritual practiced by the Canaanites and others who had constructed an elaborate system of "knowledge" based on "so called" or false science. The result of this would be destructive. The Kabbalah understands this and Waite says--

To sum up therefore: Moses gave other Tables to Israel, and these were from the side of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, from which the Law emanates.
The other Tables emanated from the Tree of Life." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 309, Citadel Press)

Deuteronomy is called "The Second Law."

These are the terms of the covenant the LORD commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in Moab, in addition to the covenant he had made with them at Horeb. Deut 29:1

As we noted above, the Law had nothing to do with a spiritual relationship with God (always available by faith) but was external regulations to preserve Israel from utter destruction as long as they were regulated like delinquent schoolboys led by their masters--

"As regards the work of this Tree of Knowledge, the Law--from this point of view--
was to
preserve the species of the chosen people according to the mode of human generation i
n the world beyond the
mystical Garden of Eden;

but the work of the Tree of Life, for those who would dwell beneath it, was one of mystical generation and fruition
It is not suggested that the
Sons of the Doctrine attained the secret in its fullness:
they raised a corner of the veil," (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 309n, Citadel Press)

For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 2 Cor 3: 9
..........
For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. 2 Cor 3: 10
..........For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. 2 Cor3: 11
..........Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 2 Cor 3: 12

And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 2 Cor 3: 13

But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament;
which vail is done away in Christ. 2 Cor 3:14

But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. 2 Cor 3: 15
........... Nevertheless, when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 2 Cor 3: 16

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Cor 3: 17

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord,
are changed into the same image from glory to glory,
even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Cor 3: 18

Because Peter and John have declared that only the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit which can make changes, Peter also wrote:

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain,
..........and you will do well to pay attention to it,
..........as to a light shining in a dark place,
..........until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 2 Pet 1:19

Spirit and Life come through the discerned Words of Christ because He insisted that:

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Jn 6:63

Therefore, to worship in "spirit and in truth" by giving heed to the Word of the prophet is to give heed or worship Jesus Christ:

Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify,
when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 1 Peter 1:11

Paying attention to the word of the prophets through the Spirit of Christ is actually defined as worship:

Proserchomai (g4334) pros-er'-khom-ahee; from 4314 and 2064 (includ. its alt.); to approach, i.e. (lit.) come near, visit, or (fig.) worship, assent to: - (as soon as he) come (unto), come thereunto, consent, draw near, go (near, to, unto).

For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. Isaiah 64:4

To those who would not turn to the Lord, Jesus spoke in parables. This was the "veil" which hid the "Tree of Life" from them:

Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. Matthew 13:13

Suniemi (g4920) soon-ee'-ay-mee; from 4862 and hiemi , (to send); to put together,
i.e. (mentally) to
comprehend; by impl. to act piously: - consider, understand, be wise

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: Matthew 13:14

Perceive: From Strong's "see" which is derived from g3708 meaning to discern clearly, to attend to, to experience, to perceive.

Baptism is the time and place where "the Tree of Life" is opened to us and the veil is lifted:

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 1 Peter 3:21

The "clear conscience" offered only by request at the time and place of baptism means:

Suneidesis ((g4893) soon-i'-day-sis; from a prol. form of 4894; co-perception, i.e. moral consciousness; - conscience.
Suneido (g4894) soon-i'-do; from 4862 and 1492; to see completely; used (like its prim.) only in two past tenses, respectively mean. to understand or become aware, and to be conscious or (clandestinely) informed of: - consider, know, be privy, be ware of.

When Moses died and the Law was placed in the Ark of the Covenant--considered by them to be God or His house--the Shekinah was shielded and would not be seen until Messiah came. Those who seek to find the "Lost Kingdom" which Messiah presumably could not establish, look to Sunday morning rituals and the writings and conduct of scholars and suffer a fit of depression which often spills over on others. However, the Kingdom cannot be found by looking for externals but within ones self.

The Jewish scholars understood that "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" and their teeth had been "set on edge from eating sour grapes." The pudding wasn't appetizing and hundreds of years of law keeping had not changed one Jew for the better--

"the Oral Law... is a balm of life for the just, for the unjust it is a mortal poison... But the sorrow of it is that after eating of the Tree of Knowledge through the years and the ages we are still untutored children,

knowing little in the essential manner either of good or evil." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 310, Citadel Press)

The Law, on the other hand, made no person perfect but made them aware of sin. While the Jewish scholars did not believe that Jesus was Messiah they recognized that the Covenant had been hidden during the period of the Law.

"The Scripture mentions that 'the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days.' They might have mourned him, had they known, through the triumphs and the exiles continued thenceforward,

for they lost the Secret Doctrine of which he was the personification.
It was
withdrawn when he left, as if into a secret sanctuary,
and no voice issued therefrom until the days of Rabbi Simeon.
He was even as a Rose of Sharon which blossomed on the ruins of Jerusalem in the days of Vespasian."
(Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 310, Citadel Press)

The Jews believed that God's Spirit had no connection to the revealed Word but must be fed, clothed, entertained and housed in a temple and in ceremony. Only after Israel totally failed could the learned doctors look at what seems clear in the Old Testament and understand that the Spirit is not associated with ceremony or nationhood but with the Abrahamic Covenant and the Book of the Covenant at Mount Sinai.

When Israel tried to find God's lost prophet in charismatic ritual God gave The Book of the Law and took the Spirit away from anyone but those of faith--

"if we accept the Secret Doctrine on the subject of Moses
........... and the Law there is an aspect of failure about the great mission of the Lawgiver.

His stiff-necked generation prevailed against him to the extent that he could fulfill only the shadow of that which he proposed.

His intention was to deliver the truth which makes men free (Covenant),
but they were fit only for a substitute (Law). Now, this is set forth very curiously in a single passage of the text,
where it is affirmed that Moses sought to bring the Shekinah out of exile, but he failed.

The Shekinah signifies here the Secret Doctrine and this implies that the First Tables were written ad clerum, but the context was destined to remain in exile so long as Israel was incorporated as a people in its own place and land,..

It is said therefore, in yet another place, that Moses will return on earth at the end of time to complete his mission by revealing the True Name of Shekinah which is also in the hiddenness, and there is no pretence that it was known to the Doctors." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 311, Citadel Press)

And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Mt 17:3

Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Mt.17:4

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. Mt. 17:5

And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. Mt. 17:6
........... And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid Mt. 17:7

The "secret doctrine" of God was The Book of the Covenant but it never entered the temple...

After the beginning of Christianity and the end of the Jewish state and temple worship, the "Doctors of the Law" had time to look back at their sometimes-confusing history and the--

"mystical doctors of Israel did not fail to discern the uplifting of strange portents in their spiritual sky, the full significance of which was not rightly to be recognized beforehand, supposing that they were real prognostics.
........... It was only after the event that most of us become wise in this manner.

"In retrospect the portents were everywhere; in retrospect the world's creation, the great myth of the Garden, the judgment of the Flood, and the rest of the Divine Providences were like tocsins and trumpet voices concerning all that was to follow.

Not alone were the seeds therein, but it was Israel delineated throughout... Yet it was not only to come; already it was in a sense there, so that the stories of old look weirdly in a light which suggests that they were recorded before the events with which they are supposed to deal." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 312, Citadel Press)

Scripture says that they didn't understand the meaning of their writings and "earnestly wanted to look into the meaning of their own history." Paul will warn Corinth and others not to be ignorant of the Scriptures.

Furthermore, God gave Israel a new and different set of "ten words" and 613 laws which the prophets say "were not good." Israel is said to have prevailed against God to the extent that he could fulfil only the shadow of that which he proposed.

The early Jews seeing the end of their third temple saw the past events as symbolic of a present reality:

"The occurences of the past were also faithful in respect of later things that were to come.
For example, when the Tables of the Law were broken by Moses,

this is said to have occasioned the ultimate destruction of the First and Second Temples." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 312, Citadel Press)

Even without this Jewish perspective it is possible to see that the Law was given as punishment and the Exile was made certain when Israel committed spiritual "adultery" at Mount Sinai while God was "filling out the marriage certificate."

However, when the Law, the temple and the religious rituals did not save Israel we should be honest enough to take off the blinders and take another look at the Old Testament.

The first idealized view is the "plan" which David claimed to see from God for the temple. David claimed that he was so spiritually perfect that God loved him but we are not bound to take David's claim as God's endorsement.

Even if God gave the plans for the Temple there was no supernatural building of it but rather the Phonecian architects did the work with slave labor. If He gave the plan, therefore, perhaps it was like the Law a plan to dead the blind guides to lead the blind nation into Assyrian and Babylonian captivity.

After the effective end of the Temple period, Ezekiel predicted an "idealized temple" which would demote the Levites. This ideal is often expressed in the history of Israelite characters but it is not what really happened.

A second view of the temple is that God's "temple" in which He really lives (the human heart and the church collectively) was never built by any human hand. The Kabbalah or the record of early Jewish writers is made up of many documents. Within the larger body of this literature there is a record of the idealized temple:

"There is firstly that wherein there is no shadow of vicissitude as to the glory and the plenary grace which inhered in the design and execution of Solomon's Holy House.

The Inner Sanctuary constituted the heart of the world; the Shekinah dwelt therein after the manner of a virtuous and faithful wife who never leaves the abode of her husband.

It was therefore well with Israel during this period." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 312-313, Citadel Press)

We noted above that there is a close identity between the Shekinah and the Word of God in its Covenant form representing the Tree of Life. It is significant, therefore, that the "glory" of God entered the Temple but God does not dwell in temples made by human hands. What did exist in the Ark in the Holy Place was the written Word.

God gave the plans for the Temple in the same sense that He initiated the family of David in the form of Messiah Who would indwell the church or the True Temple. However, God promised a FAMILY but Solomon built him a house. You will see that it was understood with circles of sanctity quite identical to the towers of Babylon.

"The building plan was sketched by a supernatural hand and was delivered--as we are aware--to David, by whom it was shewn to Solomon. The temple was erected on seven pillars, the craftsmen following the design, point by point, until the work was finished. There was a sense in which they followed blindly, but there was also another sense in which the work was self-executed. This is suggested by the silent nature of the building, about which we hear in Scripture. The analogy is that of creation, for the world evolved of itself, with God as the beginner of the Work. Hence David said: 'Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.' The meaning is that the Lord designed the Temple and the work went on of itself." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 313, Citadel Press)

The Temple was built for the union of the King and Matrona, God and His Church in Israel." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 312-313, Citadel Press)

"Of the structure in its completeness we are told that the

earth inhabited by the Gentiles encompasses the Holy City, which is the centre of the habitable world;
the
town encircles the Holy Mountain;
the
Mountain surrounds the session house of the Sanhedrin;
this in turn
stands about the Temple;
and the Temple
encompasses the Holy of Holies,
where dwells the Shekinah and where are the Propitiatory, the
Kerubim and the Ark of the Covenant.

The Holy of Holies itself was built on that foundation stone which, as we know already, is held to form the central point of the world. It is identified with the celestial throne of Ezekiel and in appearance it was like a sapphire." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 313-314, Citadel Press)

However, a writing called The Faithful Shepherd records the Temple from the literal, physical view--

"The First and Second Temple were transitory things in their nature; they should have been the work of God Himself,
........... but because of Israel's sin in the wilderness, the First Temple was built by Solomon, and hence it did not subsist.......

Contrary to the former intimation, the Lord was not the builder.
So also at the epoch of Ezra, again on account of sin,
the
Second Temple was erected by men and there was no ground of subsistence.

It follows that so far no holy house has been built in reality at all, nor has even the city of Jerusalem been as yet constructed. The world is still awaiting that promise of the Lord: 'I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.' (Zech. 2:5)." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 314, Citadel Press)

"There are suggestions however which go much further than mere questions of substitution. It is said that

from the day when the Holy One raised the Supreme Sanctuary
the celestial favours were never manifested in the terrestrial Temple, built of stones and mortar.

I suppose here is the house not made with hands which is termed elsewhere a place of spiritual nourishment which the kingdom of heaven accords to those in need of it and the sanctuary which brings all the poor under the shadow of Shekinah." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 314, Citadel Press)
........... "The Temple of Solomon was a symbol of penitence as well as a house of prayer,
........... and its destruction signifies an impenitent state.

The cause of its destruction is said otherwise to have been the separation of the He and the Vau in the Divine name as the result of sin. The people were sent into exile and the Shekinah was driven out. The Vau went in search of the He, but she was in a distant place; it looked towards a sanctuary, but it was burnt; it looked for the chosen people but they were in exile; it turned towards the source of benedictions, but this was dried up. It is said otherwise that the destruction of the First Temple dried up the sources of the Shekinah above and that the Second Temple those of the Shekinah below. All light was clouded, so that the saints of this world were no longer enlightened." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 314, Citadel Press)

The "glory" appeared in the first but not the second temple. In Zechariah God proves that He is not the glory in that period. After the establishment of the Holy City and the church as the Temple of God, He will personally be the glory.

"It is said otherwise that the destruction of the First Temple dried up the sources of the Shekinah above and that the Second Temple those of Shekinah below. All light was clouded so that the saints of this world were no longer enlightened.

"In another form of symbolism the First Temple was destroyed because it wanted light, which was absent also from the Second Temple, but in a still greater degree, the Second Temple signifying the fleshly union of male and female.

"The priests of the First Temple ascended on the walls of the Sanctuary, holding their keys in their hands and said to God: 'Hereunto we have been Thine administrators; henceforth take back Thy possession. The sun turned away from the moon and enlightened it no longer; there was no day without maledictions and suffering." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 315, Citadel Press)

Waite notes that no true temple had ever been built to this point but that Messiah would build the true Temple where

'in the absence of a place of sacrifice, devotion to the study of the Law will bring forgiveness of sin more readily than the burnt-offerings of old."

This true temple the heart or mind of the individual member. Jesus confirmed that "there is no true temple" and therefore:

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. John 4:21

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Jn.4:23

God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Jn.4:24

And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. Mt.22:16

Later, Paul connected walking in truth with walking after the Spirit or Mind of Christ:

I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. 2 Jn.1:4
THERE is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who
walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. John 8:1

Jesus conditionally accepted the Synagogue because it was a place of the Word of God and not of sacrifice or ritual. Jesus excluded prayer from time and public place and relegated alms to secret gifts from our had to the hand of the poor. Therefore, Christian religion is contemplating the Words of Christ in the mind or spirit and speaking to Him in prayer.

"It will be that period mentioned in Scripture: 'Behold, My servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled and be very high.' The reference is to the Messianic epoch, when the world will be restored, impurity will disappear therefrom, and death shall be cast out for ever. The Holy One will remember his people Israel and the Temple shall be rebuilt. Formerly it was based on severity and wrath, but it will be restored in charity and will be founded thereon." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 316, Citadel Press)

In deciding how the different visions of Messiah will be united Waite notes that--

"Messiah who is the Son of Joseph will be united--that is, in his mission--to the Son of David but will be slain. The one is the conqueror of the great Rome and the other of the little Rome--whatever the distinction between these cities may signify. The number 60 is fixed for the manifestation of the first and the number 6 for that of the second." (Waite, A. E., The Holy Kabbalah, p. 320, Citadel Press)

"There are suggestions however which go much further than mere questions of substitution. It is said that from the day when the Holy One raised the Supreme Sanctuary

the celestial favours were never manifested in the terrestrial Temple. built of stones and mortar.

The Bible makes it clear that Israel lost the oral covenant when they sinned at Mount Sinai:
