Dancing without the BOOK, Rubel Shelly: My friend, Max Lucado, compares the role of the Spirit in our lives to a guy who wants to learn to dance. The music starts, and the next thing the guy knows he's dancing without the book! This sermon seems to round up the thoughts of Max Lucado, Jeff Walling in Daring to Dance with God and Edward Fudge reminding us that we missed the last half of Acts 2:38. As so many sermons are these days, the goal of the sermon must not allow the facts to get in the way. Our review is in blue.

Max Lucado and Rubel get much of their stuff from Gnostic writings: for instance the Cosmic Christmas and S.U.N. worship to think of S.O.N. worship. The DANCING JESUS and Holy Spirit comes from this one.

Rubel Shelly Appeals to Higher Authority--Max Lucado

I like the way my friend Max Lucado illustrated this difference in his book A Gentle Thunder.

Max compares the role of the Spirit in our lives to a guy who wants to learn to dance. He's a rational, intelligent sort of guy, so he goes to the bookstore and buys a how-to book. He takes it home and begins studying. He does everything it says with meticulous care. When the instructions say sway, he sways. When the instructions say lean, he leans. When the instructions say spin, he spins. He even cuts out paper footprints and arranges them on the family room floor so he will know exactly where to step.

Finally, he thinks he's got it down pat. He calls his wife in and says, "Honey, watch!" With book in hand and reading aloud so she'll know he's done his homework, he follows the instructions step by step. It says, "Take one step with your right foot." So he takes one step with his right foot. Then it says, "Turn slowly to the left." He turns slowly to the left. He keeps it up, reading and then moving, reading and dancing, through the whole thing.

Max Lucado: Then he collapses exhausted on the sofa and says to his wife, "What do you think? I executed it perfectly!" To which she replies, "You executed it all right. You killed it!"

The bumfuzzled husband says, "But I followed the rules, I laid out the pattern, I did everything the book said . . ."

"But," she sighs, "you forgot the most important part. Where was the music?"

With that, she puts on a CD. "Try it again. Quit worrying about the steps and just follow the music." She holds out her hand, and he gets up and takes it.

Max Lucado: "closes the story with this: "We Christians are prone to follow the book while ignoring the music. We master the doctrine, outline the chapters, memorize the dispensations, debate the rules, and stiffly step down the dance floor of life with no music in our hearts.

Dancing with no music is tough stuff.

Jesus knew that.

For that reason, on the night before His death He introduced the disciples to the song maker of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit."

In my Bible he says that I will return to you as another or fuller Comforter. He also promised to guide the Apostles INTO ALL TRUTH. Of baptized believers He said that He would give A holy spirit to be able to hear Him in His word which He said "is Spirit and Life."

Jesus CAST OUT the musical minstrels like one ejects DUNG. All rhetoricians, sOPHISts (serpents), singers and musicians were SECTARIANS. They belonged to the Sect of Hypocrites along with the Pharisees (peddlers of prayers and sermons) and Scribes (writers of false doctrine).

Elihu wrote in Job 35: "Or what does he receive from your hand? [8] Your wickedness may hurt a man as you are; And your righteousness may profit a son of man. [9] "By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty (Christ). [10] But none says, 'Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night, [11] Who teaches us more than the animals of the earth, And makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?'

God's songs have been composed as the Word of Christ: His songs TEACH us His Will, our songs just excite the sensual nature and TEACH ERROR.

The worship of Dionysus was popular with the common people and favoured by the tyrants. Pisistratus founded the city Dionysia at Athens, or at least the dramatic performances. These were used in connection with chthonos songs much like those in Amos which were feasts "with and for dead ancestors."

The preachers lie: From Lipscomb, "There is nothing wrong with their worship" they just had a bad mental attitude. No. This was the worship God turned the Israelites over to when they rose up to Play which was musical idolatry. This is quite identical to the Agapae which Christians soon abaoned:

The marzeah was a pagan ritual that took the form of a social and religious association... Some scholars regard the funerary marzeah as a feast for--and with--deceased ancestors (or Rephaim, a proper name in the Bible for the inhabitants of Sheol)." (King, Biblical Archaeological Review, Aug, 1988, p. 35, 35)

"These five elements are: (1) reclining or relaxing, (2) eating a meat meal, (3) singing with harp or other musical accompaniment, (4) drinking wine and (5) anointing oneself with oil." (King, p. 37).

The Judas Bag of the THIEF was for carrying the mouthpieces or reeds of wind instruments. It is made up of two parts:

The MUSES or musicians in Revelation are the LOCUSTS. They had been turned into Locusts or "musical performers" and are now resurrected by Apollo, Abaddon or Apollyon.

Writers of modern "praise songs" lie and blaspheme and identify them with the prostitute mantic or mad claims to being INSPIRED and able to LEAD THE WORSHIPERS INTO THE PRESENCE OF GOD.

The Corinthians clearly understood the connection between LIFELESS INSTRUMENTS and singing and speaking in tongues. This defines the uncovered women prophesiers in 1 Cor. 11:5.

Heredotus of a Monument: It was raised by the joint labour of the tradesmen, handicraftsmen, and courtesans of Sardis, and had at the top five stone pillars, which remained to my day, with inscriptions cut on them, showing how much of the work was done by each class of workpeople.

It appeared on measurement that the portion of the courtesans was the largest. The daughters of the common people in Lydia, one and all, pursue this traffic, wishing to collect money for their portions.

They continue the practice till they marry; and are wont to contract themselves in marriage. The tomb is six stades and two plethra in circumference; its breadth is thirteen plethra. Close to the tomb is a large lake, which the Lydians say is never dry. They call it the Lake Gygaea.

The flute-girls (prostitutes) often used WINE and beer. A courtesan is a hetaira is a harp-playing prostitute:

The god of the NEW WINESKINS was Dionysus or Bacchus. Along with father Zeus, he was part of the Abomination of Desolation in the Temple. The JEWS, we are told by historians, anticipated that their messiah would be Dionysus. Therefore, if he sang and danced the Dionysus choral dance he would be MARKED as the usual perverted messiah.

Those who wrote NEW SONGS were flute players and courtesans: Just plain PROSTITUTES.

Those who CHANGE the Word and charge for it are also SPIRITUAL PROSTITUTES: selling that which he has no COPYRIGHT to.

And when Messiah came, the Jews believed in the arrival of Dionysus who brought his song and perverted Dance into the temple as part of the Abomination of Desolation." In the mind of Jesus, the SPIRIT and TRUTH were His WORDS. Paul in 1 Cor 2 equated THE HOLY SPIRIT to the MIND OF CHRIST. God's Spirit is to God what our spirit is to us.

Here is the image of the PERVERTED and PERVERTING dance of Dionysus, the anticipated Messiah of the Jews. Here is a picture and the JUDAS BAG was always attached to a flute case for carrying the mouthpieces of wind instruments:

What they wanted Jesus to do but He refused to dance while the clergy fluted (polluted, prostituted). So, how can you draw a dancing or musical paradigm?

Max Lucado sure knows how to "meet the needs" of the contemporary society by writing books with a wide appeal.

You know, the word SOP is used only once in the NT. It is related to the word "psallo" which in its external meaning was the twanging bowstring sending its singing arrow right into your heart. The dancing "boys" could psallo you right out of your kid's food money or you could psallo the enemy across the neck with a sword. The BAG is used only once. It means "a bag for carrying the mouthpieces of wind instruments." It is made up of "speaking in tongues" and "of the world or Kosmos" the arena of Satan. It appears often in the Classics. That little spotted thing is the flute case and the box on the left is the BAG which was used as a purse. The Dionysus dance they tried to force upon Jesus would have Him looking like this, dancing and singing the lament of defeat. Psalm 41 in the Dead Sea Scrolls rounds out the notion that the "musicians" organized under the king and commanders of the army would musically attack Jesus after identifying Him as Beel-zebub or Beliar.

Therefore, I don't know why there is such an attraction to "dancing with God" or "falling into the arms of God" like a lover. I still believe that real men don't dance. David got so self-hypnotized with his own playing that he stripped off hs clothes and danced with the slave girls (probably camp follwers). This musical prophesying is identified as the "play" of Israel at Mount Sinai when they danced without The Book of the Covenant. They forced Samson to perform this same "play" as they poked out his eyes and made him into a "grinder" which among women meant a concubine.

Dancing was originally closely connected with religion. Plato thought all dancing should be based on religion, as it was, he says, among the Egyptians. It has been shown under Chorus that the chorus in the oldest times consisted of the whole population of a city, who met in a public place to offer up thanksgivings to the god of their country by singing hymns and performing dances. These dances, which, like all others, were accompanied by music, were therefore of a strictly religious nature; and in all the public festivals, which were so numerous among the Greeks, dancing formed a very prominent part.

We find, from the earliest times, that the worship of Apollo was connected with a religious dance called Hyporchema (q.v.). All the religious dances, with the exception of the Bacchic and the Corybantian, were very simple, and consisted of gentle movements of the body, with various turnings and windings around the altar: such a dance was the geranos, which Theseus is said to have performed at Delos on his return from Crete. The Dionysiac or Bacchic and the Corybantian were of a very different nature. In the former, the life and adventures of the god were represented by mimetic dancing (see Dionysia); the dance called Bakchikê was a satyric dance, and chiefly prevailed in Ionia and Pontus; the most illustrious men in the State danced in it, representing Titans, Corybantians, satyrs, and husbandmen, and the spectators were so delighted with the exhibition that they remained sitting the whole day to witness it, forgetful of everything else.

The Corybantian was of a very wild character: it was chiefly danced in Phrygia and in Crete: the dancers were armed, struck their swords against their shields, and displayed the most extravagant fury; it was accompanied chiefly by the flute.

Dancing was applied to gymnastic purposes and to training for war, especially in the Doric States, and was believed to have contributed very much to the success of the Dorians in war, as it enabled them to perform their evolutions simultaneously and in

In many of the Greek States the art of dancing was carried to great perfection by females, who were frequently engaged to add to the pleasures and enjoyment of men at their symposia. These dancers always belonged to the courtesans.

Xenophon ( Symp.ix. 2-7) describes a mimetic dance which was represented at a symposium where Socrates was present. It was performed by a maiden and a youth, belonging to a Syracusan, who is called the orchêstodidaskalos, and represented the loves of Dionysus and Ariadné.

The book of Judges warns about a loss of the Holy Spirit and therefore a loss for the word:

And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances,

then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin. Judges 21:21

The Psalmist, like Paul, connected instrument to warfare:

Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. Psalm 149:3

For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. Psalm 149: 4

Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Psalm 149: 5

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand Psalm 149: 6 ;

To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; Psalm 149: 7

Job warned of people who rejected the book:

They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. Job 21:11
They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. Job 21: 12
They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. Job 21: 13

Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. Job 21: 14

What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? Job 21: 15

"Music, which includes dancing as well as rhythm and melody, at the same time, by the delight it affords and by its artistic beauty,

brings us in touch with the divine, and this for the following reason;

for although it has been well said that human beings then act most like the gods when they are doing good to others,

yet one might better say [that they are most like gods], when they are happy; and such happiness consists of rejoicing, celebrating festivals, pursuing philosophy, and engaging in music.

[10.3.10] And on this account Plato, and even before his time the Pythagoreians, called philosophy music; and

they say that the universe is constituted in accordance with harmony,
assuming that every form of music is the work of the gods.

And in this sense, also, the Muses are goddesses,
and Apollo is leader of the Muses,
and poetry as a whole is laudatory of the gods.

Apollo is Apollyon or Abbadon who "navigated the winds" to force men to be his "ministers" at Delphi, just up the coast from Corinth. The person who "led you into the presence of the gods" spoke in tongues under the influence of new wine or from chewing laurel leaves to make her insane. The priest composed a poem or song and the kidnapped ministers interpreted the message to cheat the "worshipers." Apollo's oracle was truly a Seeker-Friendly religious-commercial complex. However, the messages came from the Satans:

"Hear now, I pray, Earth and wide Heaven above, and you Titan (Satans) gods who dwell beneath the earth about great Tartarus, and from whom are sprung both gods and men!

And by the same course of reasoning they also attribute to music the upbuilding of morals, believing that everything which tends to correct the mind is close to the gods.

Now most of the Greeks assigned to Dionysus, Apollo, Hecate, the Muses (9 women team), and above all to Demeter,

everything of an orgiastic or Bacchic (wineskin) or choral nature, as well as the mystic element in initiations;

and they give the name "Iacchus" not only to Dionysus but also to the leader-in-chief of the mysteries, who is the genius of Demeter.

And branch-bearing, choral dancing, and initiations are common elements in the worship of these gods. As for the Muses and Apollo,

the Muses (female pastors) preside over the choruses,
whereas Apollo presides both over these and the rites of divination. (mercinary preachers)
But all educated men, and especially the musicians, are ministers of the Muses;
and both these and those who have to do with divination are ministers of Apollo;

In the Sophia-Zoe stories, the ladies were really the dominant leaders and the males were forced into supporting the musical teams. ZOE was identified as the "Beast."

An earlier incarnation, in Jerusalem, tried to force Jesus into this musical dance. If successful, Judas would have triumphed over him and negated the prophecy in Psalm 41. Jesus was not a dancing guy:

Did you know that they tried to get Jesus to dance to music? No? Didn't think so. They hoped that John wore "soft" clothing of the Catamite:

And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. Matthew 11:14

Elijah didn't dance. The prophets of Baal and Asherah were the dancing "girls." The evidence is clear that they used music to get themselves into a "spirit of" the effeminate as they tried to call their god down into their presence or to force the "worshipers into the presence of the gods."

God told Elijah that He was not in the earthquakes or whirlwinds but in a "still, quiet voice." And Jesus repudiated those dancing types:

He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 11: 15

The dance is the chorus of Dionysus worship in which only effeminate men would dance: Jesus would not.

The only other time this dance is used:

And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. Mark 6:22

The pipe was the flute from which the word pollute and prostitute is derived. The dance was the Dionysus choral dance into which only women or effeminate men fell. The ordinary Peter or Paul just couldn't do it. Not even Jesus and not even when the music was playing.

The motive for getting Jesus to dance and sing was so that he would be "triumphed over" or polluted. Click For the Embarassing Detalis of bowing to Baal. This was exactly the whirling dance performed by David. Getting "dizzy" was considered by the pagans to be proof that the "gods" were indwelling.

Rubel Shelly thinks of the Holy Spirit as a guest or "geist" as in poltegeist. Therefore, is seems logical to say:

to borrow Paul's language from Galatians 5:25 -- "in step with the Spirit."

Jesus said that He would return as the "another Comforter" who had been with the Apostles and would be in them as His Spirit or mental disposition to remind them of what He had taught. The clergy tried to polluted or triumph over Jesus with music but He repudiated them as children playing fertility games. Therefore, to suggest that Lord Jesus Christ has an "achy breaky heart" wanting to fall into your arms and dance is a truly mysterious message: I don't fully grasp it.

I don't really hear Paul speaking about dancing but of military training. The NIV uses the right words but the dance masters got the wrong message:

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25KJV
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Galatians 5:25NAS

Keeping step is not "free dancing" but following the rules: We "hup" when God says "hup." "Free dancers" just love stepping on the toes of those still marching in step by the rule book. "In step" is the Greek:

Stoicheo (g4748) stoy-kheh'-o; (to range in regular line); to march in military rank (keep step), i.e. (fig.) to conform to virtue and piety: - walk (orderly)

Paul didn't call Jezebel's effeminate priesthood to the witness stand to explain the word but went beyond the Law:

And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only,

but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. Ro 4:12

And God says that "keeping in step" means keeping the commanments for those of us not hung up on the rejection of all authority:

And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Genesis 26:4

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Genesis 26:5

Keeping in step is not doing a Max Lucado - Rubel Shelly "dance of the Holy Spirit" but is obeying Lord Jesus Christ who absolutely refused to dance and repudiated and insulted the Jewish clergy who, like children or the soft, wanted Him to get into the naked dance of Dionysus.

Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. Ph.3:16
